Let it die. Every story has been told now. No point in rebooting it, because there's nothing to add to the original two. They were awesome.
No point in setting it in present day, because that's already been fucked twice now. The whole "no, you didn't actually prevent Judgment Day...but THIS TIME we will" has been totally played out.
No point in setting it in the future. Salvation killed that part of it, and it's just not that interesting anymore. Too bad, too, because if Salvation never existed and we were talking about how to fix the series, this would be the perfect answer.
