>With the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens just a bit over a week away, you’d probably (or maybe not) be surprised to hear that people are already lining up for the movie’s opening. If so, you’d be even more surprised to hear that they started days ago.
>That’s the case outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA, where Liningup.net has organized a line that began on December 5—12 days before the movie’s opening. The organization also set up early lines for the prequel films (yes, all of them, despite how the first two went), and this year, they’ve taken the event to a very important location: the original Star Wars made its debut at the same theater in 1977.
>It’s not just about being first to see the new Star Wars, though that certainly plays a part. Liningup.net has purchased 576 tickets for the screening, and anyone who stays in line for more than 24 hours will be allowed to buy one of those tickets. To encourage people to last as long as they can stand sleeping on a sidewalk, fans who log more line-time will get to choose their seats earlier.

Why aren't you waiting in line to be the first to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
>>
>take days or weeks off of work
>to literally stand and sit around in the elements
>with no luxuries and little entertainment
>to suffer abuse from passersby
>just to watch a movie you can easily catch the day after release

Why do people do this?
>>
>>63476197
That would imply that star wars fans (subhuman plebeians) count as people
>>

There he is. There he goes again
Look everyone he posted it once again. Isn't he just the funniest guy around. Oh my god.
I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room giggling like a little girl as you once again type your little meme thread up and fill in the captcha. Or maybe you don't even fill in the captcha, maybe you're such a disgusting NEET that you actually paid for a 4chan pass so you just choose the picture. Oh we all know the picture, the le epic hehe meme isn't it? I imagine you, little shit, laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos onto the floor. But its ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh that's right, did I fail to mention? You live with your mother! You're a fat fucking fuck up and she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all god damn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on 4chan posting about homer laughing at a meme. Just imagine this, she had you and then she thought you were going to be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand and then you became a NEET. A pathetic meme forcing NEET. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even talk try to you because all you say is "Hehe... meme. Hehe... meme. Hehe... meme. Hehe... meme."
You became a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old dance that he's done a million times now.
And that's all you'll ever be.

Stupid capitalism

I remember the lines forma the IPhone 1, they interviewed some 40+ woman

"So why did you buy it?"
"Everyone was doing it"
"But... You know what you bought, right?"
"No, I'll find out when I get home teehee."

I would never make a line for something meaningless as commercial products por movie tickets. The only valid reason is food or healthcare, and in thise cases it means your country is in shit condition.

You have to checkout within 10 minutes or something though, or else someone can steal them

>>
>>63476497
>So it's first come first served in terms of reserving this on the site?
Basically. You pick available seats, which temporarily reserves them for ~10 minutes until you checkout and you're guaranteed them

If you don't checkout before then, you lose the seats and someone else can pick them
>>
>>63476433
I'll say "Excuse me, that's my seat."
And if they say "I'm not moving", I'll reply with "Yes, you are. The only question is whether you'll move now, or when I have security remove you."
My local theatre is literally in a casino. You don't have to put up with much crap.

>>

Not the same poster but all chain cinemas do reserved seating too in Australia

> Is there a time limit for you to reserver?

No when you go to the website It'll have a lay out of the cinema, seats that are taken will be blocked out. You could theoretically buy online 10 minutes before the movie starts and reserve good seats assuming It's not a packed out screening. When you pay, you print out the receipt they email you or can write down the code the receipt has on it, there is an express queue given to people that buy online.

>Can it be a week ahead?

Most screenings listed a week in advance so yes, but for some movies (Like Star Wars) screenings are listed weeks in advance. I reserved my tickets & seats the day tickets went on sale whenever that was; several weeks ago

>How do they enforce seating? Is there an usher in the theater?

Your ticket will have your seat row and number on it. If someone is in your seat you tell them and they get up. I assume you could get an employee to remove them If they don't move but I've never witnessed or heard of anyone refusing to move out of someone else seat

For the record all seating is assigned; even if you don't book ahead online when you go the cinema and buy tickets they'll ask you whereabouts you want to sit and you'll be assigned around that area. If it's an empty cinema obviously no one gives a fuck where you sit though.
>>
>>63476498

>Can't wait to walk by all the mad nerds in line 5 minutes before the film starts.

It doesn't work that way. The people in the line are never angry as that is part of the appeal for them.

I was one of those people lined up for the star wars special edition opening night releases in 1997, and was there again for the phantom menace. I have been through this many times and have never seen bitter or angry people in these lines. The people on opening night want to be there and want to be "part of something" if that makes any sense.

It is like a nerd version of a tailgate party.

The crowds are jubilant regardless of how many hours they have been waiting. The people around you start out as random strangers and are friends for life after the first half hour.

I have seen lesser versions of this phenomenon on the opening nights for the LoTR films and Star Trek films (I see every movie on opening night) and there is a similar buzz in the crowd. Nothing matches a star wars crowd though.

tl;dr

Standing in line and talking with other fans is almost as big a deal as the movie itself. They are never "mad" as you describe.

two weeks? Nigga I'm gunning for the siskel & ebert experience and going during the day after school resumes to get my optimal seat and probably have no kids to disturb what I had paid for.

>I see two singles seats, why is this allowed?

My theater's ticketing website doesn't allow that either. You can pick your seats but you cannot leave a single seat gap anywhere with your selection.

Are there a lot of pre-release showings on the 17th or is it mainly 18th in the US?
>>
>>63480219

No they didn't have them back then. That wasn't the point. The point was that "they would not be mad".

Fans at these events enjoy lining up. Even after they introduced reserved seating we still have people showing up 45 minutes early just to mingle. This is part of opening night theater culture.

Again it is like a tailgate party at a football game. You can show up early and mingle with fans or you can show up 5 minutes before kickoff and ignore everyone. You are just a stranger who walked past them, so why would they be mad?

I mean, I get that a lot of the people doing the theater tailgate thing already have their tickets (in addition to tickets they'll be scalping), and are just trying to relive previous releases... but you can't pretend NO ONE would resent those who just strolled in on release day.

The two-week line is at the famous Chinese theater in Hollywood and Star Wars fans have a long history there. The people in line are raising money for a charity and getting tons of media exposure. They see themselves as "true fans".

They went out of their way to be inconvenienced like this and they wear it like a badge of honor.

>you can't pretend NO ONE would resent those who just strolled in on release day.

They don't see it that way. Why would they resent the casual fans who bought advanced seating? In their own twisted minds it would be you who was jealous of them because you are a filthy casual who was missing out on something special.

They are still delusion retards for wasting two weeks of their lives on this but they are very proud to be there.

>Why line up at all? You can just get reserved tickets!
>Sure, we could. We could reserve our seats online, and show up 5 minutes before midnight. For the vast majority of moviegoers, that will be their experience: sterile, passionless, and without any human interaction. But that is not what the Star Wars experience is all about.

So because i'm not standing and sleeping on a cold sidewalk for 12 days i'm an idiot who can't appreciate the movie? Bravo Liningup.net

I didn't watch episode 2 and 3. Actually I didn't bother after episode 1. Is it worth it to watch them after all this time?

Wish my theater did this.

Basically have t wait in line or good chance group gets separated.

Onetime I couldn't even sit by my boyfriend because no fat fucks would move.

I'm glad about this. I'm a fan of the Chipmunk CU so it should be pretty quiet in there. But to get in the spirit of things me and two friends and an inappropriately mustachioed older guy will be spending the night before the premier up a tree. Probably sing some cover versions of recent hits, maybe a mashup.

I sneaked into IMAX 3D AoU 15 minutes before showtime for the midnight premiere and managed to get a good seat by my friends.
My sister and I sneaked into Jurassic World IMAX 3D on the midnight showing and we ended up sitting at the bottom of the theater.
It really just depends on how lucky you get
>>
>actually going to the cinema

Why

How can you enjoy a film when you're touching elbows with strangers
>>
>>63483047

There was a degenerate who tried sneaking into our theater with assigned seating.

He took an empty seat, and then several people arrived to claim their seat. He moved to another empty seat in the next row and was told to move agai when those people arrived.

He was "seat surfing" for about 5 minutes and getting angry as paying customers kept taking his stolen seat. He was almost ready to fight someone to hold onto the last good seat but by then about 10 guys stood up who had been watching him the whole time and told him to get the fuck out.

It was much more entertaining watching this than the stupid celebrity triva they play before the movie starts.
