God I love this guy. Solder was his best movie hands down.
>>
>>63461712

The Thing was his best. Let's be honest. But yeah I'll watch anything he's in.

I wish he had done a full-on Indiana Jones type series.
>>
>>63461736
Those practical effects still scare the fuck out of me. I can't watch it to the end.

>You are now aware that Jack Burton was not the true protagonist of BTiLC, but actually Wang was
>You are now aware that the movie brilliantly fools you into thinking otherwise
>You are now aware that the movie is a testament to the disconnect between narrative structure and scripting/direction

Fucking pussy.
>>

I don't know how or why bit Solder was a really comfy movie. Especially when he's holding that kid with one arm at the end.
>>

I know, but it's definitely a testament to how fucking good they made that shit look.

Actually it's just racism. Chinese people (or most Asians) I've watched it with thing Wang is all up in that.

And my white friends are like of fuck yeah Snake Plisskin.

Before we get going, I just want to establish:

>The Things by Peter Watts is a shitty fanfiction, is not canon, and was not made or endorsed by anyone on the original crew of the 82 film
>The alcohol at the end of the movie is not gasoline in a bottle, that's a fucking stupid theory and if you believe it you're honestly a retard
>The special effects in the 2011 film were by-and-large vastly practical, everyone who made it wanted it to be so especially the director; the producers of the film hired another company to digitally cover all of the practical effects with 100% CGI
>Said practical effects:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBzpT7VmSaU
>Makers of said practical effects talking about why their work was covered up and why Hollywood producers want the 'video game' look:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdDwrY5KpvI
>Don't ever read The Thing comics that came out after the movie; pic related is Childs
>>
>>63462037

But it was gasoline.
>>
>>63462037
Why do people still make excuses for the 2011 The Thing?

It didn't warrant being made, at all. CGI or practical effects, it was a waste of time and effort to even do it.
>>
>>63462031
Racism isn't a real thing, and it certainly doesn't apply here. Fuck off with your l*beral bullshit. If you want to rephrase what you're saying in a meaningful way, i.e., one that doesn't resort to l*bshit political framing, I'd be willing to talk.

kek "it's just racism". boy i can tell that undergrad degree really "taught you how to think"
>>
>>63462037
It's too late, I've already read those comics. Weird shit, right there.

Thoughts on Harbinger Down?

I gave it a shot after hearing it was like a love note to The Thing but was ultimately let down. There was only one time the creature was genuinely unsettling
>>
>>63462106

Just felt like a rehash with CGI desu. Neither good nor bad, just boring. Zero shock value.
>>
>>63462106
>>63462328

Your feelings on the matter are irrelevant. The film itself is irrelevent. The CGI situation, however, is. It continues to plague Hollywood to this day.
>>
>>63461454
I was always dismissive of this movie for years...

Until I actually sat down and watched it from start to finish.

Carpenters funnest flick. Just fucking great.
>>
>>63462292
I found it pretty bad. The direction and was bad, the acting was bad, and even the effects were a let down.

I give them credit for making it for only 350,000 dollars, which didn't even cover the effects, but it was pretty lame. It reminded me of a sci-fi channel original from the 90's.

BEHOLD!

I am your new Jack Burton.

Better in every way. You just know the remake is going to be a billion times better than the original.

Such a based hero.

>>63461801
I love how confused Jack gets as some of the crazier shit starts happening while all the Chinese people don't give a fuck. That giant monster attack in the underground is particularly great.

Maybe a 6. There are creative people out there, it's just a matter of them creeping into Hollywood to get their work made.

Pic related was made using the director's dad's royalty money from when he made movies. Sooner or later a guy like Kosmatos is going to bust into Hollywood and I think that once we get one bizarre movie succeeding we'll get experimentation out the ass. Surely even the Chinese are going to bored of the current state of affairs sooner or later.

No, it was normal alcohol. Even the script says so. Mac gave it to Childs to test him. Childs never, ever fucking trusted Mac. Ever. Childs was also covering up a good part of his body with new clothes - his jacket was dark in every single scene except that one. He was still an imperfect copy.

You'll also remember: Mac is fond of chess. If you watch the chess game, the losing move is an impossible one. The computer really is a cheating bitch. He beats the computer by giving it a drink and shorting it out.

He beats the thing by giving it a drink and exposing it.

Honestly The Thing might be my favourite movie of all time; great performances, great writing, great effects, great setting, great everything.

I still get chills when Mac says "Nobody trusts anybody now, and we're all very tired", then rewinds and records over it.

It's not that they're out of ideas, but that they're scared of throwing money at a project and it bombs. So rather than take that risk, they turn to things that people already like.
>>
> There will never be a Big Trouble saturday morning cartoon spin off complete with talking big rig.
>>

It's not really racism, the movie is designed like that. Jack Burton is basically the stereotype of an American Action movie (or Western) hero; he's loud, brash, acts before thinking, and thinks he's knows the answer to everything. If you're used to watching American movies, you assume he's the hero because that's how he acts. But he's actually the comic relief, and that's what makes his character so brilliant. He's clueless and incompetent because he's in the wrong genre. Wang is the one that actually knows what he's doing, and the movie doesn't hide it at all, most people just don't realize it because of tropes.

You have predilection towards your own race, feel safer around them and don't think much of an out of the ordinary behaviour.

Around other races you feel uncomfortable. Stereotypes come to mind without much prompting, if any. You insult them based on their skin colour, eyes, way of dress, language, cultural rituals.

It sounds like you're the one who got the shitty education, anon. Racism has been real for a long time.
>>
>>63464159
>way of dress, language, cultural rituals
Not him but those things are culture not race.
>>
>>63464159

No as of the sociological and anthropological reforms in the last decade.

Modern SJWs would have you believe that skin colour is all it takes for race to be a thing. But I'm tanned as fuck, with dark hair and eyes, and not black, hispanic or any variance of them. I just have those traits.

People have come up to me and apologised for shit, like that whole white apology thing where they'd go to blacks and say sorry for slavery. I had to tell them I was white.

One girl broke down crying and started begging me to stop. I asked what she meant and she said she couldn't believe that I'd warped my sense of self and that a black man would rather be white. She said I shouldn't idolize Michael Jackson.

This is the world we live in now.
