Guests have a lot of fun on his show in part because jimmy is such an affable guy, and the "games" and whatnot are a lot of fun for people to watch to see how celebrities interact in those situations instead of a droll conversation.
Plus the Roots are great and the way they're integrated into the show is miles better than any other show's musical components.
Conan's remotes are the best thing in late night, and Colbert has the most interesting and unique guests, but neither of those is enough to attract the lion's share of late night viewers.
