Alien Convenent sounds like a straight to dvd horror movie.

Now that Prometheus is explicitly set within the Alien universe through its sequel's new title will this movie attempt to explain the discrepancies Prometheus created in the Alien story?

Why was the Space Jockey/Engineer found in the first Alien way bigger than the ones found in Prometheus? Why jars of black goo instead of face hugger eggs? Why was the crashed ship found in Alien seemingly sitting around a lot longer than the ruins found in Prometheus (the Nostromo crew said the Space Jockey they found looked fossilized).

I'm guessing no.
>>
>>63446254
It could very much have been an ancient version of the engineers.

The size of the Jockeys was what bugged me the most. Shittiest fucking retcon i've ever seen.

This is what happens when you try to give a backstory to a cool design that should've been left the fuck alone. If you can't do it right, leave it alone.

It still should be called "Prometheus: Subtitle", this pisses me off so much.

He made such a big deal about how Prometheus was something related to Alien, but also its own thing, so it was called Prometheus, but now he doesn't stick to his laurels and calls this one an Alien movie? Fuck that.
>>
>>63446569
It also bugged me how it looked nothing like the Jockey. There's no visible mouth, they're too small, and the "trunk" is too short and doesn't look at all what the Jockey in Alien looked like.

I guess you could argue that they a different "breed" of Jockey but why even make it a prequel anyway?
>>
>>63445973

I'm still hoping they change it back to Paradise Lost.

Scott annoys me so fucking much, he seen the great interest people had in Isolation and also what Bomkampf wanted to do with Alien 5 and no doubt had a massive fucking ego trip thats now leading to this
He seems to fucking forget that the success behind his Alien and Blade Runner - his only good films in my opinion - is more down to the team behind him, he was a good art director and good at storyboards, thats it from what ive learned, i mean every other film he has made has been pretty meh or complete shit since then
I honestly believe he thinks he can carry anything

>>63448172
He's one of those people who, what with his early successes and riches, thinks anything he says is automatically good, that there's no room to improve an idea, no need for sounding boards or development. You can hear it in the way he talks about his ideas. It's just an idea in his head and he's going to say it and it will get made and that's all there is to it. It's exactly the same as Lucas. Star Wars isn't a story he's concocted and constructed, sculpted into being, with the aid of many talented people who all contributed to it, it's just a whole reality that already exists fully formed in his head, waiting to be made to his exacting vision.

>Why was the Space Jockey/Engineer found in the first Alien way bigger than the ones found in Prometheus?
When the Nostromo crew walks in the room the space jockey looks 30 feet tall and they're ants compared to him. When Dallas climbs up to take a closer look he looks very much the size we saw in Prometheus, maybe even smaller. I think this was a trick of camera perspective.
>Why jars of black goo instead of face hugger eggs?
The goo goes through a few different hosts before it becomes a Xeno, maybe they'd rather infect an ecosystem through use of this goo than plant eggs around and hope an infestation takes hold.
>Why was the crashed ship found in Alien seemingly sitting around a lot longer than the ruins found in Prometheus (the Nostromo crew said the Space Jockey they found looked fossilized).
It wasn't the same planet so wasn't necessarily the same ship. It could have been part of the first attempt by the engineers to leave the planet 2000 years prior, an even earlier crash we still don't have an origin for, or a later one we'll see when Ridley rounds off his planned trilogy. Dallas' comment doesn't amount to much, we saw in Prometheus that what we thought was a skeleton was actually a flight suit, and fossilization doesn't occur outside of sediment.

One theory is that the spaceship is 'overgrown'. The ones in prometheus are ancient, but a lot less ancient than the one found in Alien. The ships are clearly biomechanical, so it's possible that instead of dying, the ship overgrows and becomes more organic, turning into how it looks like in Alien. The suit is also biomechanical and could have literally grown with everything else.

The other posibility is that some Engineers have bigger suits. Why not? My it's some sort of mecha armor used in combat. You've got your normal attire, and then you've got a big as suit for some ground troops or some shit.

>I'd rather see a retarded monster and this guy wouldn't so he must be young and has never seen the first film.
Nigger, Alien is my favorite film. I grew up with that shit, long before Prometheus was a fucking thing. When I saw that creature, I was curious, but imagining a giant monster like that alive always sounding ridiculous. It'd look like something out of Star Wars. So I always believed that it didn't have legs and was more of a weird creature that was formed into the ship.

Once Prometheus came along and we learned they were human-like, I thought it was a pretty good idea. I wasn't expecting it and it sounded better than the retarded alternative.

The creature design we see in the film worked perfectly as a Giger-esque dead thing. It was never intended to be shown alive, and so they did the best they could with it.

honestly, if it was that size I think it would just look silly, original design or prometheus.

all things considered, i think they made the right choice just making him 8 or something feet, because it at least gives some agency to the audience, in that it is presented as superior to us, but not in an over the top way that would detract from the tone.

though they really shouldn't of even tried to bring the Jockey to life, the minute something so ancient and forbidding moves it just looks silly and ruins the whole aura of mystery

>>
>>63455785
Depends on how much you care that it's a brightly lit sci-fi romp that doesn't feel anything like the other movies, personally I fucking hated it.

Alien 9/10
Aliens 8/10

Their answers are shit

>stop asking so many questions you dont know what a plot hole really is!
>>
>>63449828
I'm pretty sure they'd call it Paradise Regain'd.
>>
>>63455294
those are child actors in this scene

Which cut of 3 are we talkin here?
I'd give the original a 6 but the Assembly Cut a solid 7.
>>
>>63445973
>Alien Covenant
>not Alien Convent.

Truly missed opportunity.

sounds shit

Questions that don't need answering

Seeing the original space jockey was enough to inspire the feelings of ominous mystery. That the characters are out of their depth despite the banalty of their bureaucratic lives.

>obviously not a spacesuit in Alien
>Ridley Scott makes it a spacesuit anyway

What a fucking hack, I swear he doesn't understand the movies he makes.
>>

David is an android and the original Space Jockey had a hole in his chest from a xenomorph, if anything it's Shaw
>>
>Alien
Perfect movie in its own genre, great worldbuilding
10/10

>Aliens
Perfect movie in its own genre, great worldbuilding, a model sequel
10/10

>Alien 3
Unfortunately troubled, good low sci fi bad Alien sequel
6.7/10

>Alien: Ressurection
A campy Jason X-like sequel not for everyone's tastes, embarassing for a franchise this good
4/10

>Alien vs. Predator
Great setting, everything else is mediocre at best
3/10

>Aliens vs. Predator 2: Requiem
Horrible teen horror bullshit even if it introduces some new things
1/10

>Prometheus
Ok science fiction, bad as an Alien prequel thanks to the ruined space jockeys
6/10

Also I prefer the theatrical version for the first movie, director's cut for the second and the asssembly cut for the third.

I'm okay with it being a spacesuit, since the xenomorph itself blurs the line between biology and machine. If the Space Jockey's do have a hand in the creation of the xenomorph, (or whatever goo in Prometheus) then they have this genetic technology.

If their organisms look like machines, then I want their technology to have a living component.

What I hate is using that spacesuit concept to make them tall and bald humans.

I like to think there's a bigger jockey on their home world.

Of course it is. And it's wonderfully long.

why the fuck did Hackjima devote so much time to saving "muh kids" anyway? Any time they showed up in a cutscene, I immediately skipped it.
>>
>>63456192
Same except replace the Assembly cut for 3 with the theatrical.
>>

>all that white water begging to turn red
>ends on the other side of the map with a chopper extraction in midst of gunfire

I don't even care anymore. I've moved beyond salt to complete indifference to anything Kojima or MGS related.

They used child actors in space suits.
>>
>>63456894
It's made out of tubes n shit
HR Giger's style is often characterized as bio-mechanical. He's pretty open about mixing biology and machines, fear and sex
>>
>>63456192
Same except Prometheus, a 7 for me
