Just watched the first Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time and I got to say it was better than I expected it
are the sequels worth watching?
2 is great, 3 is alright, a lot of people thought 4 was shit but I enjoyed it
Johnny Depp's performance is fun enough to stretch it out imo
2 is sort of hard to understand and sort of a cliffhanger. 3 is complete nonsense. Both are still fun though, and Bill Nighy is great. Id say watch them.
Most people hate 4. I kind of like it though. It's completely disconnected from the others apart from a few characters, so i think it would have been better if it werent part of the franchise.

The second film was so laughably retarded I didn't bother with any of the later sequels, which are allegedly even worse. The first one is the only one worth your time.

They make up a decent overarching story for the trilogy. If you liked the first one, I would recommend watching them.
The third one kind of sucks as a movie in it's own right, but just like many third parts to a trilogy, it's really just there to tie up all the loose ends and bring the story full-circle.
1 is a great movie by any measurement. Oh and the crew of the Davy Jones is great in 2+3.

but the second one is just so much fun, it's like Mad Max Fury Road of the pirate movies - a non-stop action

I really liked Davy Jones and the darker overall tone of Dead Man's Chest, but they should've taken a different direction with the third film.
Instead of going all grand scale and epic, just make a fun adventure with a conclusion, while tying the Davy Jones and Black Pearl arc together.

First one is a fantastic swashbuckling adventure, then they completely change the tone in the sequels and they become much darker and more serious. The third movie is especially guilty of this. People shit on Stranger Tides but it feels much more like the first movie I feel, in that it isn't taking itself too seriously.
Black Pearl > Stranger Tides > Dead Mans Chest > At Worlds End.
