Wait, are we not supposed to immediately guess Sheev is Sidious? Was that really intended to be a twist?
>>
>>63435770
They could have at least gotten a different actor if that was the intention.
>>
Darth Vader is Sheev's father, like my father before me
>>
>>63435770
PALPATINE'S BEHIND IT ALL
>>
it was a flawed idea since the beginning when they cast the same actor from the OT
>>
>>63435770
I don't suppose so. I mean, as a kid I figured it out.

It's one of those things where the audience knows but the characters don't, and you're watching in horror because you know everything is going to burn.
>>
>>63435770
There are forum posts from 1998 that someone posted like a week ago and there were people arguing that there was no way Sidious was Palpatine

When I was waiting in line to see Revenge of the Sith with my friend I referred to Sidious as Palpatine and he was all confused and had no idea what I was talking about

so yeah, not everyone knew
>>
>>63435770
No. You were supposed to know.
>>
>>63435770
You watched them in the wrong order.
>>
>>63436086
He is the same actor though, that should have told them.
>>
>>63436115
Thanks, George
>>
>>63435851
This is the worst post I've read today

Why would you leave the Sheev?
>>
I was 11 years old in 2002. I remember figuring out that Sheev was sidious and feeling like I had figured out a big amazing secret.

But now I look back and think, how could anyone not figure that out? Its literally the same actor.
>>
>>63435851
today I learned that Ian McDiarmid was the emperor in the OT
>>
>>63436086
wait, you're saying a lot of people who like Star Wars are just really dumb? I'm a cynical guy, but I have a hard time believing that, mister!
>>
>>63435770
you ruined it for me. you fucking dick. happy?
>>
I figured it out as a tween or whatever when I saw clone wars for the first time. Its not that obvious in ep.1 but it sure as fuck was in 2, but thats most likely cause I was a kid. Dude doesnt even change his voice or whatever when he has the hood up.
>>
>>63436330
They fucking call him "Senator Palpatine." They say it like every time he's in the room.

Sidious looks and sounds exactly like Emperor Palpatine from the OT in the future.

Literally don't understand how this was a mystery, unless a whole lot of people are just pretending to have watched Return of the Jedi.

I guess I'm actually pretty willing to believe that now that I think about it...
>>
>>63436363
Incredible how he was able to flawlessly play the same character decades later
>>
>>63436409
Yeah, it was a form of "dramatic irony" where the audience is expected to know what's up but the characters don't yet.
>>
>>63436366
Trekkie pls go
>>
>>63436409

>They fucking call him "Senator Palpatine." They say it like every time he's in the room.

Why would that indicate that hes the emperor? We dont know that the emperors name is Palpatine, do we?

>I guess I'm actually pretty willing to believe that now that I think about it...

You have autism.
>>
>>63436079
>It's one of those things where the audience knows but the characters don't
This is a literary technique called "dramatic irony"
>>
>>63436518
true, he's credited as "The Emperor" in Jedi but his name was well-known before Episode 1 came out
>>

There was a set of episode I action figures that had before after pictures that literally went Senator Palpatine> Emperor Palpatine. Also his name is the same for fuck's sake.

>>
Interesting side note: Chewbacca's full name is never said in the films. He's always referred to as "Chuy".
>>
>>63436775
Lando calls him Chewbacca a bunch of times in Empire. Even pronounces it like only Billy D could.
>>
>>63436518
>>63436634
I can't name a specific scene where it happens, but I'm sure that we knew the Emperor was named Palpatine early on. I remember someone telling me that the senator was the emperor because of the name connection.
>>
>>63436810
The name Palpatine is not said once in the movies. It's only because or Merch why we know.
>>
I don't remember if I connected him to the Emperor, I watched the OT between Phantom Menace and AOTC, but I did know he was the hooded bad guy.
>>
>>63436775
The real fun fact is that the name Ewok are never stated in the movies

George came up with Sith back in the 70's same with Starkiller and midi-chlorian. The thing is the Fox had enough foresight to tell him to fuck off with those dumb ideas.

The Sith are pretty funny

Rule of Two Bros gaying it up all over the galaxy squirting meaty-chlorines at each other

One of his better ideas
>>
>>63437701
Rule of Two was EU wasn't it?

He took it and a few other ideas into the prequels.

Ok so Obi-Wan, Yoda, And Anakin at the end of ROTJ all had the same robes on. That was like the Jedi uniform, these brown robes with white under. When the prequels where released and they showed Qui Gon and young obi won, they had those robes on again, so it backed up the theory. When everyone first saw Sidious in ep1, we thought, oh hey thats a sith lord like the Emperor, he has on the same outfit like the Emperor. It was only later we learned Sidious was Sheev.
>>
>>63437792
But the robes weren't a uniform, Obi Wan and others on Tatooine used them.

It was made a uniform in the prequels. Hell, even Owen used brown robes.
>>
>>63435770

They should have used Dooku from the start.
>>
>>63437822
In a New hope it wasnt a uniform, but but by the End of ROTJ it was. I mean cmon even luke had the style going in that movie.
>>
>>63437792
>All Dark Jedi look the same
>Have the same face, too
>Also same voice
>Wow those Sith sure are very uniform
>>
>>63437822
Was Yoda ever on Tatooine?
>>
>>63437936
Luke had black on white, and he wasn't wearing robes. Luke wore some tight-ish clothing.
>>
>>63437701
>tfw no Sith Master to be your bro
>>
>>63437960
He wore a robe to fuckin Jabbas palacd and takes his hood off like obi wan did in a new hope when he first met luke.
>>
>>63436518
What? He was widely known as Emperor Palpatine, I'd understand little kids not knowing but I can't believe it fooled anyone over 10.
>>
>>63437768
Maybe initially. It's canon now though.
>>
>>63438132
And he never wears one again.

Everyone that wasn't some freak alien or a bounty hunter wore robes, but now it's a jedi/sith uniform for some reason.
>>
>>63438132
He wore robes on Tatooine because Tatooine is a desert, as Obi-Wan did

after Tatooine he's just wearing a black jumpsuit
>>
>>63437792
>It was only later we learned Sidious was Sheev
If you were under 5 and had never heard of star wars, which is fair enough as that's the target audience.
>>
>>63435770

I don't think George was going for a twist. But Palpatine did have to pointlessly melt his face in Ep. III in order to look exactly like he did in RotJ because some people in the audience wouldn't have made the connection otherwise.

He didn't melt his face for the benefit of anakin or the senate, the previous few lines of dialogue all contradict that.
>>
>>63437936
He only wore robes on fucking Tatooine and only as a disguise nigga
>>
>>63438222
Put my face in the microwave and execute order 66 seconds on high
>>
>>63437968
Why would you screenshot that?
>>
>>63435770
For a casual viewer, it's not that obvious until Revenge of the Sith where he acts evil right from his first scene.

I was a kid at the time and had seen the originals years ago and only saw the other prequels when they came out. I barely remembered who Palpatine was since he was only in the boring talky scenes.

Of course it was obvious to Star Wars fans, but fans tend to live in a bubble and don't understand that most people aren't following the casting, merchandise or rumours like they are.

It was a uniform. Pic related. This was the EU back when the movie came out. When we all read this, we thought the new movies would be based on this.
>>
>>63438424
>it's a uniform because EU says so

I love EU as much as the next guy, but come on.

They were barely canon even back then.
>>
>>63438391
>boring talky scenes.
Even as a kid I recognized his scenes saved the climax of that movie. He's fucking terrifying when you're a kid.
>>
>>63438459
I meant in the previous two movies where he's a boring politician character.

In Revenge of the Sith they are definitely much more interesting, the scene at the space ballet (or whatever that was) was brilliant.

>>63438391

The prequels were never designed to be watched first. You have to have seen IV - VI in order for a lot of the shit in I - III to make any sense at all. The plot was written backwards, the characters were written backwards, same with the design, technology, and fuck even the locations.

The films were designed with the expectation that you knew who darth vader was, you knew who the emperor was, you knew what storm troopers were, who boba fett is, and had heard about the clone wars. I mean FFS yoda literally says in Ep. II "begun, the clone wars have" after the first battle. It's like some political leader in 1914 saying "And so begins THE FIRST WORLD WAR" It's all there for the benefit of the audience to go "hey hey remember this? remember what so and so said this? Well here it is!"
>>
>>63438526
It's almost like Lucas is some kind of super JJ Abrams

Top pottery
>>
>>63438553
Always two there are
>>
>>63438449

Not all EU was created equal. Timothy Zhan had the most access and was the closest thing that LucasFilm had to an official star wars author. His books formed the backbone of the entire post RotJ saga for twenty years. Yes it's not canon now, but back then it's what people used to create video games, comics, other books, table-top games, board games etc... It's as close to canon as you can possibly get.
>>
>>63438583
Zahn is so overrated

Those books had a lot of good ideas but horrible pacing and no scope
>>
>>63438583
Zhan was the shit, but he did what Lucas did after him. A few people on Tatooine wore robes so it became what Jedi wore.
>>
>>63438553

Yes, but if your making a sequel that kind of nostalgic call-back is more legitimate, even if it's insanely lazy.

Plebs will deny this cause critical thinking is difficult

They wont know why the prequels had no dramatic surprises like the OT, that wont interest them

I wonder why this rumor took off recently.
>>
>>63438526
>And so begins THE FIRST WORLD WAR
Shit, I never thought of this.

It's a thing a lot of prequels suffer from, though.
>>
>>63438756
Some autist on Reddit wrote a stupidly long post about it. I like the theory because it's funny but I honestly hope no one actually believes it.
>>
>>63438789
I saw the post, videos, and fucking long threads about it here.

I mean, we're all talking about how great the prequels would be if Jar Jar was a more central character. That's insane.

Can you imagine him being evil with his retarded accent and voice?
>>
>>63438789
how do you explain the no twist then? just put it down to really lazy writing? why did Lucas think Jarjar was the key to it all?

Why is some stupid background goofy character a key to anything?
>>
>>63438818
>Can you imagine him being evil with his retarded accent and voice?

but palpatine has a different voice to sheev, it follows jarjar would have a spoopy voice too.
>>
>>63438819
He was talking about his retarded comedic scenes.

If they could get Jar Jar to work as a funny character then the film would work overall.

>>63438840
It's funny to even imagine it.
Jar Jar with his stupid face and walk acting menacing.
>>
>>63438685
This is true, it felt Star Wars-y, but some of it was too safe, and some of it was retarded. That arc didn't need three books to reach a resolution; it was a purely financial decision (which I can't knock Zahn for; he was writing for a paycheck).

I didn't just want the universe, I wanted the grand, new age themes as well.
>>
>>63438864
Jar Jars face wouldn't stay the same, it would became more twisted and gnarling showing his sharp teeth like this image. Also I bet Jar Jar was orignally meant to be Darth Plaguis.
