He tried to make it "multicultural" by making his group of friends diverse so it would distract from the fact that it was a show about an Indian manlet trying to date white women. If he cared at all about how racist Hollywood was, he would have tried to date women of his own race instead of hamfisting examples like Short Circuit.

its less of a comedy and more of a relationship/family drama which im fine with. i think the fact that its aziz ansari and its being plugged by netflix as more of a comedy was just their way to get people to watch it. regardless, i dont think its been bad. the actual relationship aspect has been pretty spot on for anyone who has been in a long term relationship.
all the racial controversy ive seen on here is exactly what the show is trying to get people to discuss though: why CAN'T indians or asians or other races be on tv in these types of roles? whether or not people agree with their approach or stance is obviously their prerogative.
also i dont think there is anything wrong with trying to be politically correct in television, after all if you dont like it you can choose not to watch it. personally i think it makes the show easier to watch.
