Fuck, Seriously? Obi-Wan witheld the truth about Vader and the past to Luke right up the end of the orgininal trilogy. Why would he suddenly spill his guts about the intricate back-story and history of a droid he didn't even like twenty years ago is any ones guess.
Still seems odd that R2 never mentioned it, considering how it's shown that Luke can understand R2 at times.
