His documentaries aren't even his best films

Scorsese is a far superior documentary filmmaker.

Little Dieter Needs to Fly is my favorite documentary

>Fitzcarraldo

Is this film even worth watching?

The pic makes it look dark and edgy

Yeah that Loch Ness doco he did with Zak Penn was really good.

Alex Gibney

herzog would be the first to admit that errol morris is a better documentarian

Its his most accessible work. Fitzcarraldo is more focused on the grandious side of adventure than the usual meditative semi-hypnagogic reflections on man and nature characteristic of his auvre.

Chris Marker. Herzog is good though.

I'm not. Scorsese picks interesting subjects rather than edgy exploitation. Herzog could NEVER make that George Harrison documentary the way Scorsese did. And The Last Waltz? Herzog would be totally clueless.

has anyone tweaked the American vs British documentary pasta for Herzog?

Adam Curtis has taught me more than any documentary film director, though you could argue that he is more of a glorified film editor.
