Thoughts?

Are you as ridiculously hyped as I am?
>>
>>63366238
Your mom said to me last night that your birth and life was a series of unfortunate events.
>>
yeah read the books as kid

though unlike something like LOTR or harry potter I doubt it would really have the same effect on me as it did then
>>
Hugh Laurie or Jeremy Irons as Olaf pls
>>
>>63366238
It's fake you idiot.
>>
>>63366238
Only if Violet gets DSLs again.
>>
>>63366737
>>
Disgusting

I remember this trite little book series. Other kids would read them while I was working my way through the Western Canon. I was reading Gogol and Proust when the other brats were just starting to pick these books up.
>>
>>63366238
Emily already perfected the role of Violet. The show can't work itself out of that rut unfortunately.
>>
>>63366589
Actually its real.
>>
>>63366238
Neat
Know what the format of this is gonna be? Like, 1 episode per book so it's over in one season? The movie crammed three books into one movie so it won't be too bad for time I think.
>>
>>63367097
right that's why violet's name is misspelt
>>
>>63367161
http://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/movies-tv/news/a36264/a-series-of-unfortunate-events-is-coming-to-netflix-and-you-could-play-violet/

>>

She'll be unfairly compared to the other Violet because of her lips.
>>
I hope they raceswap some characters if Im being honest
>>
So that teaser was the real deal, right?

How and why would anyone be able to scrape together a professional looking teaser for the series only a week or two after Netflix announced it?

I think denying it's real was just a typical Snicket misdirection
>>
>>63368131
To be fair, it was announced long before the teaser. The timing was fine for it to be fan made, but even better for it to be real.
>>
only just heard about it from this thread. i remember enjoying the books as a kid so i'll probably check this out when it's released
>>
>>
>>63366238
They're going to have a tough time find a cunny that was hotter than Emily Browning was in the movie, she was the one that turned me!
>>
>>63366238
I don't intend to watch anything that has some sleazy streaming service logo accompanied by "A [...] original" line to go along with it. If you watch Netflix you're pleb tier normie cancer.
>>
>>63369555
Casting director had a fine pedophile eye.
>>
>>63366238

Did netflix ever made anything good beside " House of cards" ?

All the rest have been memetier series.

Trailer for people who haven't seen it.
>>
>>63377893

Neat. Seems like a very fitting tone, I hope they run with that. I know the books are for kids but do we know what demographic they're going to be going for with this series? seems like maybe a bit older crowd
>>
>>63371780

She was like 14 in the fucking movie, that's not cunny.
>>
>>63378671
The book series hasn't been relivent to children in years. I get the feeling the demographic is 18-20something year olds who grew up with the series.

Even if they are targeting the CURRENT fans of the books though (there isn't many) the books did such a great job of treating their child auidence as adults so I'm not too worried about it being made specifically for kids

>>
>>63378907
No offense but I get the feeling you didn't read the books much as a kid. This is just the sort of Lemony Snicket type of shenanigans I would expect from a Netflix announcement.

At first I thought it was fake too, because it was released long after I thought the project was scrapped, but now that they are making it public again that the project is real, the trailer seems all the more believable.
>>
Are they bringing Jim Carrey back?
>>
>>63378961
I didn't read the books as a kid, not an American, only saw the movie. Why would they do this? Seems convoluted.

Is it in production already? Who is cast?

>>
>>63379317
The entire point is that its convoluted. The books were convoluted. Always trying to trick the reader and had some very strange twists. Its a good marketing tactic on top of that. The hype for the trailer lasted days longer than it would have because of pure speculation.

They are casting into January. I would assume the bulk of the scripts are already written.
>>
>>63366847
Whoa... There's your impressed response, bro.

Just kidding. No one came here to read your blog.
>>
>>63366847
Yet you ended up shitposting on /tv/, while your ASOUE-reading classmates are scientists, astronauts and politicians.
>>
>>63367201

Yeah, but that poster is fake.
It's using cut-outs from the books' art, and Violet's name is spelled incorrectly.

So far there's no legitimate promotional material for the show.
>>
I don't remember much about these books, I need to read them again. Something something fires, something something VFD, something something sugar bowl? Klaus climbing up a chimney on a mountain or some shit? Something to do with eggplants? I don't fucking know.
>>
>>63366238
What retarded faggot would make a fake poster and put the fucking Netflix logo on it. For what purpose besmirch your own """art""" like that?
>>
So what's going to be the rating to this since Olaf had a thing for Violett?
>>
Haven't seen the movie for a while, is it worth watching again? Is it at all comfy?
>>

The only thing that bothers me, if the trailer is real, is that they've got the eye wrong again. That isn't the 'eye symbol'. This is.
Its important to the plot in the later books.
>>
I liked the movie as a kid but not that much when older.

As for this shit, first I've heard of it and don't really care. Actually I might just read the books if there aren't over ten.
>>
>>63381074
I think there are 13, but honestly the plot is great, if only for the tone.
>>
>>63380365
Pretty comfy.
Plot is retarded because they shoved 3 books into one movie and changed the ending, but considering everything, its pretty nice
>>
I read literally all of these books when I was like 12, all I remember is bits and pieces, mostly them at the end on some tropical island drinking coconut shit called coloquial or some shit.
>>
jailbait emily browning was a perfect violet

im really upset that movie didnt quite work out
>>
>>63381869
Yeah, they end up washed up on an island at the end, I think count olaf drowns?
There was also something about a fungus that grows in your throat if you breathe in the spores and the only cure was wasabi or horseradish
>>
>>63381934
Doesn't Olaf get stabbed with a harpoon or spear or some shit?
>>
>>63381978
Just looked it up
He gets put next to the sea to drown by the islanders, but escapes with a glass full of the fungus with the spores in, and when he plans a killing spree, one of the islanders shoots him with a harpoon, releasing the spores and impaling him in the process. He begins to die from the fungus, then has a horseradish apple thing, that heals him, but the harpoon injury was fatal.
Christ, these books were crazy, I love it

Kids are the target audience but I can easily see an adult reading them. I was actually considering going back and reading them again soon.
>>
I am now.
>>
>>63382350
They have a lot of adult-y stuff in them.
Its like, there is enough subtlety that an adult would gain enjoyment from reading them, but you'll still be able to tell they're for kids.
I'm reading a pdf of the first book now and I forgot how great the tone of it was
>>
>>63382350

they are aimed at kids and teenagers but arent exactly "kids books" if you get my meaning

its definitely possible to enjoy them as an adult if you go in with the right mindset

What would everyone's thoughts be on Damon Lindelof helming this? They barely explain anything about VFD's mysteries in the books (where did Captain Widdershins and Phil go? What was in the sugarbowl?) so he'd be perfect imo

Can someone explain to my the the fuck this isn't animated?

It's thirteen different stories in literally every crazy location possible
>>
The film was great, fuck anyone who says it wasn't
>>
>>63384042
Actually, yeah, the amount this would cost to make must be insane. It takes place on a huge coast, in olaf's massive mansion, in an orphanage, in a hotel, in a circus/freakshow, on the side of a massive icy mountain, on a desert island, and god knows how many other places
>>
>>63384042
It really is surprising, especially since Netflix has proven themselves pretty competent with their first foray into animation (BoJack).

And on top of the locations shit, there's some really cartoony violence later on. As I recall, Sunny gets into a swordfight with her teeth.
>>
>“You’re a pretty one,” he said, taking her
face in his rough hands. “If I were you I
would try not to anger Count Olaf, or he
might wreck that pretty little face of yours.”
Violet shuddered, and the bald man gave a
high-pitched giggle and left the room.
This is an actual quote. I wonder if they'll leave it in

No, as slick as it looks it was confirmed as a fake. From what I understood, a video editor made it and sent it viral while discussions with netflix were still in the works to drum up publicity and ensure it would be greenlit. He did the same thing with another show.
