Did they trust him? I thought they only sided with him because they were butthurt about new taxes imposed on them by the Galactic Senate and he was the person best positioned/suited to take on the Republic. In exchange for their allegiance, they would continue to dominate galactic trade without heavy taxation.
The only person aware of the true extent of Sheev's plan was Sheev. Everyone else knew as much as they had to.

Grievous was not, he knew that Sheev was the real orchestrator of the war and his ultimate master but did not know he was also the Supreme Chancellor nor that the CIS was expendable shit.
