>I believe 2001 is one of the best contributions of all time to cinema but Star Trek: The Motion Picture doesn't interest me

star trek the motion picture is by far the greatest star trek of them all. no seriously. it's absolutely perfect and it has the longest shots in cinema history.

Greatest in terms of what? No other Star Trek film attempted to have the artistic merit of TMP, it's not fair to compare them that way

>The Final Frontier is a rubbish film

What is this feud between both you made up in that troubled head of yours, autismo? Star Trek: The motion picture clearly tried to ape 2001's visuals and pacing.

I watched ST:TMP on the big screen as part of the AFI's Robert Wise festival and it was actually garbage. Terrible acting, a messy ugly script, horrific pacing, uncomfortably dated digital special effects, and a mediocre story that would have made for a bad TES episode. Wrath of Khan is bad too for a whole different set of reasons that are actually rather similar, but at least that had a story worthy of a film.

There are no good Star Trek films (haven't seen any of the Next Gen ones though but people shit talk those).

2001 is not a perfect film by any means but at least it demonstrates technical mastery and features some really original. fascinating and memorable scenes sandwiched inbetween the bad parts.

Basically, if you prefer TMP to 2001 you're a contrarian hipster faggot OR a complete retard who somehow happened to watch both.

And you don't even need the Star Trek films when TNG and DS9 feature more than enough wonderful content suitable for rewatching.

The best sci-fi film I have ever seen is the Andromeda Strain because it focused on the scientific method, everything else seems/tends to turn the genre into ridiculous fantasy schlock , ST:TMP strongly included.

No it didnt. The only thing TMP owes to 2001 is that it was dealing with alien life on a different level of existence than our own. A vague similarity at best.

Yes, and even then the plot is lifted from an episode of TOS that aired 3 years before 2001 came out...

Undiscovered Country is king

it was great because it just felt HUGE! As a kid watching this all those years ago on VHS, I remembered feeling like I was in space being humbled by just the amazing scope of it all.

bad pacing? dude you went into it with a point and left with an edge. you're one of those people who probably hates man of steel. everyone's entitled to their opinions and stuff.
>>
I wish I could've seen a version of TMP directed by Nicholas Meyer... Undiscovered Country is still king
>>
>>63354590
wait you're defending TMP by defending MOS? why?
