It's interesting because the one he made after that is arguably his best.
Ivan's Childhood, while still a masterpiece (especially for 1962), is easily his worst and least ambitious film. It's pretty weird how huge the spike is between his first 2.

Yeah, he shows a lot of promise. Should be interesting to see how his US debut will be. It has a great cast so far.
