The individual episodes are great but the over-arching story drags it down every season without fail. Seriously almost every episode is fun with some insane stunts and action with a decent sense of humour about itself.
If you turn your brain off for the "fight the conspiracy that framed Michael" episodes it's pretty good. Even those episodes as stand-alones are pretty good, it's just so convoluted by the end that it was hard to take seriously(those plotlines, not the show which was still pretty fun right up to the end).

But like a lot of other shows these days, the last couple seasons are shitty and the show gets bad and it kills your love for the entire enterprise.

I guess. It can get a little tense when the main characters get pissed at each other, but it doesn't happen too often.
The show gets darker as it goes on, as the overarching plot develops. It's pretty good at building anticipation over villains and they usually pay off in each season's finales. Don't take it too seriously, and you'll probably have a good time with it.
