How is this film so perfect?

I hated it honestly

It's a guilty pleasure when you're in a fedoracore kind of mood. Nothing more.

A guilty pleasure? Why so?

And why fedoracore? I wouldn't really say it's edgy.

It's good at best. I like the OST and it's visually nice to look at, borderline "videoclip effect". The narrative, the action, the suspense.. they're all kinda bland desu

>>
>>63294145
>Other than playing video games I don't really play video games.
The fact that Drive routinely attracts grown men who would debase themselves with such juvenile entertainment tells you all you need to know about the movie and director. I wonder what percentage of the Drive audience plays video games compared to the audience of a piece of real cinema like Hard To Be A God.

You can judge any work by the people it attracts. The only people who disagree with that are bad people enjoying bad media. The fact that so many people on a degenerate autism board enjoyed Drive is the final word that ever needs to be spoken against it.

Absolutely not. Art in a vacuum is meaningless. The way it impacts the real world is the metric by which we can judge whether or not the film was worthwile.

Drive left the world a worse place than it was before and so is a bad film that should not have been made. Enabling the hotpockets is one of the worst crimes a motion picture can commit.

And absolutely true. Giving a positive experience to societal degenerates makes the world worse off than it would be if the media wasn't produced. It enables the video game players. Infantilization has reached such a point that today it's irresponsible and downright disgusting to make a film that doesn't try to antagonize the video game demographic as much as possible. By letting them go on undisturbed or even pandering to them and giving them a good time all you're doing is ushering the white race towards it's extinction.

Drive is a transparent commercial exercize in pasting together supposedly cool elements from other films, which it doesn’t even do a remotely good job of. Drive imports most of its “cool” elements from superior films, but those elements simply don’t work when plucked away from the originals. Why? Because unlike those classics, Drive lacks a central premise. There’s no purpose in this film other than to imitate.

The expressionless stares in Drive are too frequent and too long. Occasionally they’re broken with a cheesy smile, at which point what little tough guy credibility Gosling had built up goes out the window.

Even with a seasoned action star in the lead role Drive would be an awful film, but it’s even worse for the fact that Gosling is not a convincing action hero. He’s got muscle, but he’s far too boyish in the face for this kind of role. His version of the tough guy stare is more akin to the timid Cameron character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I’ve also been reading quite a bit about Drive being stylish. Well, that’s true if you like meaningless MTV pop videos. Excessive slow motion, depth of field and long supposedly meaningful stares aren’t style. They’re today’s fads ported in from tv commercial aesthetics.

Have people ever watched the classic films Drive lifted it’s cut and paste ideas from? Or has the market become so saturated with garbage that this half-baked effort actually seems good by comparison?
>>
>>63296509
>this movie made me want to stay away from goslings flicks..........

Its kind of pathetic to say, but The Notebook was a better film for what it was trying to be than Drive.

>>63296524
This actually sums up how I feel about the film pretty well. Although I think the boyish look is what they were going for when they tried to cast an "innocent" looking actor for the role.

I get what you mean but I think that Drive can stand up okay on its own. Refn's direction is solid enough to carry the movie and Goose isn't supposed to be James Caan. The autism factor is just about the most unique thing about Drive, dismissing it as a mistake doesn't seem fair.

Drive is like a combination of the plot of Shane with the style of Thief and The Driver, but I think it all pulls together kind of nicely. You've written a lot of words but haven't made many points. What you've written can be boiled down to

>muh classics are superior because of vague generalizations
>Goose isn't a hardass
>style is bad
>>
>>63293605
Soundtrack is killer

Spoken like a true video game manchild. This is a medium of antagonisation and punishment. The ideal for cinema would be the murder of the degenerate. The closer a film gets to that ideal, the better the art. Cinema is broken bones. Cinema is flayed flesh.

>So the less entertained you are the better the movie?
The more valid the art, definitely. Entertainment cinema is on the level of the video game. Of the comic book. Of the fleshlight. The mark of a degenerate film is one that leaves audiences cheering. The mark of a great film is one which clears rooms. You lure in the entertainment degenerates and then you crush them. You bore them, you torture them, you break them.

>"Fedora-core" refers to films that are popular among adolescent teens to young males who perceive themselves to be on the fringes of society. The films that are usually mentioned, such as Fight Club, The Boondock Saints, or The Dark Knight, appeal to that sensibility, although the films vary in content, quality, and popularity among all groups. What unites them however, is a common theme of alienation and chaotic/glorified/ violence. Simply put, you could say that they are united by their nihilism (think the main character from notes from the underground). Characters like the Joker, Tyler Durden, Donnie Darko, Patrick Bateman and even Travis Bickle are relatable or ideal characters in the minds of these people.
Examples: Drive, Kick-Ass, Dark Knight, Scott Pilgrim

>The second type is pseudo-intellectual and pretentious bullshit that pretends it's much more complicated than it actually is. These movies are designed to be actually really fucking simple, but still just complicated enough (or have a complicated enough twist) to make plebs feel clever when they watch it.
Examples: Inception, Fight Club, Idiocracy, Cabin In The Wood, Matrix

>The third type is high-budget modern schlock. Stuff that's 'cool', 'awesome' or 'manly' on the most superficial and juvenile level. Shit that falls under the same category as "SHARKS WITH LAZERS!" or "MUSTACHED JETPACK FIGHTS!". These movies tend to be gory or comedic or bloated, or all three.
Examples: Guardians of the Galaxy, The Wolf of Wall Street, 300, Pacific Rim

>Ferris
An okay movie but anybody who likes it and isn't a dad is almost certainly a fag.

>Requiem
Great for meming but it's mostly remembered because it blew the minds of plebs who had never seen anything remotely experimental or out there before. Dreams, fantasy and insanity have been handled so much better by so many filmmakers. Baby's first trip.

>Scanner Darkly
I haven't actually seen this yet, I want to read the book first. PKD does have some pretty fedoracore followers though. And a movie adaption makes his 'cool' ideas even more accessible to nerds who want deep plots and mind control.

>Frank

>American Beauty

>Cabin in the Woods
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

>Fifth Element
Overrated as dick. Ruby Rhod carries the fuck out of every scene he's in the set and costume designs are cool but it's not that good a movie if you watch closely. I like it the first time I saw but enjoy it less each time.It doesn't do its job as an action/science-fiction movie that well and is instead carried by imaginative design-work which was arguably stolen.

>Taxi Driver
Not bad on its own but it's meme status is undeniable. Travis Bickle is the original "literally me."

>Memework Orange
The second "literally me", Alex is the definition of "intelligent, nihilistic, with a wicked sense of humour."

Drunken Master (1978)
>>
>>63299435
I am not an infantilized beta male. But even if I was I would be willing to sacrifice my life for the good of the future of the white race. I'd kill myself last though, so I could be sure that all of my enemies had been removed and my life had meant something.

>muh video games
All entertainment is a juvenile waste of time. Anything that doesn't get you food, shelter, or sex is a waste of time. Faggot.
>>
>>63299524
If everyone started liking Drunken Master and making Drunken Master points 100% you would start calling it fedora-core.
>>
>>63299520
>just like A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and Nebraska
Except these flicks are pitched at the "entertainment" audience and The Turin Horse has no interest in entertainment whatsoever. The black and white is a very superficial point.

you made this long of a post and still managed to misunderstand what you were replying to. congrats anon

and yes hellraiser is undeniably fedoracore if you agree with everything on that chart
>>
>>63299528
You need to be more subtle with your trolling brah. It's not fun anymore.

I agree. I am against all forms of entertainment. Video games are just the most prominent entertainment degeneracy threat on this board.

The Fedoracore label doesn't depend on the type of following a movie has, it's just that fedoracore movies tend to get the same kinds of followings because it's such a legitimate and accurate criteria of assessment and categorization.

>Rob Ager
The same guy who fantasizes about child molestation in Kubrick movies
>>
>>63296485
Because this is a thread about Drive, not Ryan Gosling, faggot.

Yeah, no surprise the Mad Meme Fury Reddit poster would prefer the entertainment schlock of Drive to the extreme arthouse nightmaresterpiece that was OGF.
>>
>>63299612
>Against all forms of entertainment
Then why the fuck are you here? Why do you have internet? Why aren't you foraging for food or trying to have sex? To enlighten people? That's a waste of time.

I actually really liked Brooks as the bad guy. Him and Cranston were my favorite parts of the movie.
>>
>>63300156
>Cranston
Fucking terrible. I know you like your meme show but fuck off. My second dad is a classically trained actor and whenever Cranston was onscreen he was shaking with rage. He even had to go outside and throw up at one point. Fuck meme man cranston. I'm glad he has faded away into minor supporting roles in D grade movies again.
>>
>>63293605
that movie is literally SHIT
>>
>>63293864
One thing I liked was that there wasn't much dialogue. Wouldn't want all films to be like Drive but it worked pretty well in this movie.
