Here's the thing. While I will agree the trailers are making him look not in the best light, I don't think he's overacting, I think Lex Luthor is creating a public character. And in more scenes in private, he'll be more more darker, more "Lexy".
Because we all know that Superman can deal with a hard hitter, see Zod. What I like about this Lex Luthor so far is that he's so fucking punchable, and Superman's going to need to resist everything literally telling him "Smack this motherfucker to kingdom come." It provides a different look on how Superman will need to hold back his powers.
Also, another thing to consider. Perhaps he's light-hearted here, in his first appearance, but will grow darker in each film he shows up in? Provide a bit of villain character development? Now I'd like that, because Capeshit never really deals with villain character development.

When I watch/read Lex Luthor, I don't want to punch him in the face. I want him to get fucked over sure, but I also want to enjoy him as a character while watching his plans build up and then fail.
