Compare the romance in these to the romance in Avatar. In Avatar Jake spends weeks getting to know Amazon Cat Girl whilst having incredible new experiences; there's obvious bonding there. In the Hobbit, the dwarf and the elf are basically just assigned to liking each other. No background, they just do it. There was no investment of time.

Srsly? Dont tell me this is isnt one of the most epic scenes in cinematography:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5FqtO-F_yA

Dont tell you didnt felt genuinly sad when the whole thing was over and bilbo was returning home, dont tell me whole thing doesnt feel epic as fuck, there are a bunch of other moments too, like when they say thorin just hides his greed under the cloak of patriotism, i mean isnt this a direct punch of our modern day oligarchs etc.

>>63259196
true, but why is it a suprise? tauriel is hot as fuck, has a nice as who would want to tap that? dwarf, man, or elf
>>
>>63259304
I really didn't get into the 3rd movie at any point. Thorin's stubbornness was tedious to me. I get dwarves are stubborn, but I couldn't empathize with him. At least when Frodo wouldn't give up the ring you knew it was the legendary ring's power fucking with him.

Also, there's just too many deus ex machina moments in all the movies. Any tension that could have been built in the 3rd movie was murdered by the fact that every prior tense moment being ended by something incredibly convenient for our heroes.

Tauriel is pretty fine, though.

Not even close no theres about one moment in the first movie were I really felt the wonder of the LOTR trilogy when the eagles are flying towards Erebor that maybe scraped 9/10 for a second or two but the rest was a solid 7 not bad by any means but entirely forgettable.

He should have done it, it's not like a re-write would have meant that all older versions would have to be burned. The two versions could have co-existed.

The book is very well written. I don't know how you can praise the LoTRs books and say the hobbit is shit. Do you really prefer it when tolkien goes off on some inane irrelevant detail for 20 pages, before remembering that he has a story to tell? Or his complete lack of ability to interweave narratives?

>>
>>63260563
Well written? I don't know about that. The ending is just a big mess. It's like Tolkien didn't know how to end it and just winged it by adding a large battle as the climax.
Bolg is suddenly introduced and killed within 3 pages. He just shows up out of the blue and for some reason Beorn also appears and kills him.
>>
>>63260836
I mean the prose and style. The ending is a clusterfuck, but it's a very straightforward and easy read compared to LoTRs. And I think it does a good job of ramping up slowing, so each threat seems bigger than the last, instead of hackson throwing in extraneous orc fights to kill time.
>>
>>63260836

Bilbo already comes full circle by stealing the Arkenstone, though. The large battle isn't really part of his story, hence why it's skipped over.
>>
>>63260913

Lord of the rings did a really good job of applying practical effects. There's plenty of CG, but it's used appropriately. Even Gollum holds up pretty well as long as he's not in daylight.

Part of the over reliance on CG is mostly because of the 3D. You can't use forced perspective and film in 3D, for obvious reasons.

Its like opening pandoras box, not to mention that Jackson didn't really want to make it in the first place. It's a lazy sloppy job because no one cared about it.

Just listen to the cast and crew commentaries for the original movies, people were very obviously passionate and genuinely interested about the project. Now we just have Morgan Freeman flicking off the camera, and gandalf going bloo bloo.
