Why he didn't produce anymore classic after 2000 ?
>>
His films followed the path of the world. His films, like society after the millenium, turned into soulless shit. He is a surveyor and artist of the times.
>>
Has there been a single classic film after 2000? CGI killed that human feeling all classics have.
>>
>>63258415
LotR
>>
I liked Munich but yeah most of his shit has been too safe, too plain, too oscar-baity.
He just got too old and too big for his own good, at least he didn't go full Lucas yet.
>>
>>63257916
?

He made "Catch Me If You Can" in 2002.

He is just a professional executioner, someone has an idea, tells him how he wants it and Spielberg makes it.
>>
>>63258511
Most recent Spielberg film I've seen and probably my favourite. Best Leo performance as well.

He's fluctuated between God-tier and shit and everywhere in-between throughout his whole career. He's just had less good stuff lately.

Spielberg made classics after 2000.
>War of Worlds
>Minority Report
>A.I
>Tintin is one of the most furious action-adventure of the decade. It looked like it was made by prime Spielberg.

Some others like Catch me if you can or even Lincoln are really good. Spielberg's work is still great. He still got it in term of filmmaking. Just, maybe because he's getting old, his movies are getting more... how to say ? Quiet. Doesn't mean they're less good or have no classic potential.
>>
>>63258541
Those ain't got shit on the level of titanic, terminator 2, jurassic park ect.

A.I. is 2001.

A.I. was one of the most disappointing movies ever made
>>
>>63257916

War of the Worlds!
>>
>>63258713
What ? Great apocalyptic vibe. Insane filmmaking. One of the best Tom Cruise performance. Great tension and suspense. Never forgetable scenes and imagery (the plane crash, the train in flame, Cruise killing the guy in the cave while his daughter sings the song, the military charge, the initial attack, the escape from New York, the cloths and bodies in the river, etc.). The only flaw I could see is the happy ending, not really in the tone of the movie.
>>
A.I. is probably the worst thing he ever did in his career, not in terms of film quality, but making and butchering the film of someone who never liked you is really despicable
>>
>>63258831
>>63258872
I don't care what the fedoras say, War of the Worlds was great. Great acting, great effects, one of the few movies with a genuine "grand/epic feel". It's a classic.

If it came out in the 80s/90s it would be considered a classic but it didn't.

Really? I thought kubrick and sperglord were friend's

So it's true that kubrick said about schindler list?

>inb4 you don't get to bring friends
>>
>>63258980
>>63259073
Kubrick wanted Spielberg to direct, and he would produce, but I think the original screenplay was darker

Kubrick had title cards made and everything
>>
Minority Report
AI
The Terminal
Catch Me If You Can
The Adventures of Tin Tin
Munich
War of the Worlds
War Horse
Crystal Skull
>>

>>
>>63259139

Apparently the fairytale elements of it were all Kubrics ideas, and the darker stuff (flesh fairs etc.) were Spielberg's input.
>>
>>63258953
Funny how just about anyone who onew Kubrick said he would've loved it
>>
>>63259139
But Spielberg didnt change a thing. All the sappiness was already on Kubrick's treat of the script. That's why he even took the project in the first place. It was very similar to his own work.

Also, Kubrick was already in decline whereas Spielberg was in the second apex of his career doing relatively dark movies. His film is probably better than what Kubrick envisioned
>>
>>63258811
>was
So you got over what you wanted it to be and enjoy it for what it is?

Fucking love A.I.
>>
I though Lincoln was great, and Bridge of Spies was at least comfy
>>
>>63259265
>>63259283
I know the fairytale shit was in there in the beginning, but the film was more "R rated" in the beginning, a lot more dealing with the dark uses of the robots
>>
He stopped giving a shit about producing quality after Weinstein bought his Saving Private Ryan Best Picture Oscar for Shakespeare in Love because he realized there's no point in trying.
>>
>>63259283
>Kubrick was in decline
Eyes Wide Shut is his best work, anything but a fucking "decline"
>>
>>63257916
Band of Brothers
>>
>>63258872

It looked like a JJ Abraham. Great entertainement production, but not a"classic".

It was just a little above the melee
>>
>>63259450
Its better than most other maintreans directors input but hardly a great Kubrick work. Full Metal Jacket & Eyes Wide Shut are two of his lesser movies, probably outside of his top 10
>>
>>63259450
and then there's this guy

the guy who clings to shit films like eyes wide shut because kubrick's other work is too main stream and he wants to feel superior to everyone else

this is why you can't take kubrick fans seriously
>>
>>63259594
Yes eyes wide shut is my favorite Kubrick film because it's "not mainstream" that's definitely it

Fuck off
>>
>>63259649
Totally wrong. Its one of his most succesful films at the Box Office
>>
>>63259573
>>63259573
If you think Fear & Desire or Killer's Kiss ia better than fmj or ews, you need to get your head checked
>>
>>63258415

OP here.

I think you're right. He didn't (want ?) manage that turn. Cgi in Jurassic Park was an accident, everyone knows it. He did the clever cuts, the amazing sound and it worked. A real Spielberg.

After this ....he knew the industry was mutating

I have the feelings he don't care anymore about directing with all the cgi things, he prefers producing movies (he back up hard JJ Abraham, yep that's him who start his real "carrier")

His only two movies above average are without cgi : " catch me if you can" and "Munich"

I think we resolve this, thanks /tv/
>>
>>63259649
yes, i already figured you out. that's exactly it. you're a hipster fedora tipper. good job

you probably think barry lyndon is great too
