What does /tv/ think of John Carpenter's The Thing?

It's a good movie but overrated when compared to Carpenter's other work. Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness, In the Mouth of Madness, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China and even Dark Star are great movies but people only remember The Thing.

Really fucking good movie. Great effects, great pacing, great sound design... I love it. One of my favorites. Every so often I try to write a screenplay followup based on the assumption thatChilds was infected but never attacked Mac.

There's no real canon to go off of. And the less that Carpenter explained, the better the Alien came across.
