It's called "Dark Ages" because until recently, we had no textual sources on the time.

Most scientists of the day were subsidised by the Church.
>>
It's called the Dark Ages not because of some worldwide suppression of science by those evul backwards Christians some atheist tinfoil underdog fantasy. It was because Rome got fucked hard by barbarians that civilization was barely keeping together. Most of the scientific and medical advancements at the time were actually discovered by Christian monks who had too much time on their hands. Not to mention they're the only ones who gave a damn about preserving books and knowledge.

Where the fuck is Byzantine supposed to be on that? Roman? What about Gothic, or even Carolingian. What about the build up and dips between renaissance, mannerism and baroque periods. Man that isn't even bait it's just delusion.

I'm sure they're out there but I think it's pretty counterintuitive to make a movie that presses the issue of natural design not existing, especially since all movies are created objects.

There are plenty anti-church movies, but I'm not sure what director or producer would write a film that says the universe lacks direction or production.

Religion seems to inspired more respect for science than fedora tipping does.

Religion inspires more respect among plebs, so pandering to the religious sensibilities will get your farther in life, and therefore put you in positions where you can make differences you otherwise wouldnt have been able to because people like you equate religiousness with personal quality

>>

Christianity is a Theology and way of life, that grants broad strokes (and often quite specific strokes) on the nature of the universe, matter, energy and their interactions. It's also an acting philosophy on how man interacts with his surroundings and his mind, how he uses words and how he speaks. As scientists of their times, especially coming up in Christian academia, their entire scientific understanding and approach draws from Christianity.
>>
atheism is just an edgy religion

agnosticism is the only rational stance
>>
>>63222086
You know what. I take it back.
Sentient fedoras tipping themselves would be a fun movie.

Also I am surprised no one mentioned the invention of lying. It's not a great movie, but thought it was decent enough.

Athiests are the scum of the earth. For every Richard Dawkins there are a thousand fedora tipping, uneducated butthurt millennials. The reason most of them are not religious is because 1.) they never had a traditional religion in the first place or 2.) they are uneducated. Priests and Rabbis are more atheist than atheists are since they actually have to grapple with the difficult questions in life, many of which they don't have answers for.

A bible thumper and a hardline atheist are both completely insufferable and equal parts stupid. A bishop and a physicist have more in common than these morons.

I was thinking about it earlier.. and realized, Hollywood has done shit all for bio-pics.

Where is the Nietzsche movie? Where is the Mark Twain movie? Why is there no movie about a Greek philosopher not even one?

We always say Hollywood ran out of ideas, they haven't even tried to mine all of history, if they are so desperate for ideas just do this you just have to look at some historical figures and be creative.

yeah it's not so much that Hollywood has run out of ideas so much as it's just much easier to pander for an audience.

I'd say that there's no Nietzsche movie primarily because most movie-goers don't really know about him and wouldn't be interested in a movie about a Nazi who looks like... that

You do realize that this little graph is entirely disingenuous right? The gap in the dark ages was mostly two religions fucking with each other rather than one deciding science was shit. The muslims had possibly the scientific center of the world until they decided, themselves, that science was the devil and went full fundamentalist.

On top of that, I think people have a real hard time understanding that the romans pulling out of europe had a profound effect on european peoples and they had to restart a lot of their own societal advancement. Furthermore, the european world was religious in all aspects until the reformation, but discrimination against those performing scientific inquiry is highly overestimated. Anyway, if you want to blame a religion, Islam is the clear choice.

Really though, this whole thing has more to do with industrialization and the world wars than anything.

They'll obviously not have the body in there, but I doubt there's going to be any real supernatural elements or conclusive statements that Christ rose (other than from the mouths of the followers).

The meme taht muh "education" + muh prosperity brings theism is still taken seriously in some circles.
Which is bizarre here in France, where it's been shown time and again that Christianity and religious attendance are basically the common factor of everything "success" in terms of money, standards of living and intellectual pursuits.
