i remembered people laughing in the theater when that scene came on.
>>63212890
Fuck i would have been so mad if i was there
>>63212834
Why does Gendalf say that his spirit will find the halls of his forefathers? Aren't souls of mortal men travel straight outta this world and merge with Iluvatar?
>>63212993
Men don't know that though.
>>63212993
Halls of Mandos.
Fucked me up good
Based theoden. His desire for death, vengeance and redemption are so well founded by this scene.

>>63212834
Reminder that this scene was made by the same Academy Award winning director https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUzUAbtRt-A
Not even a sad scene. I get teary eye'd as fuck.

That scene is beautiful. "No parent should have to bury their child" dear god the feels.

these feels. how did Jackson fuck up the Hobbit so bad. It's like OT vs PT of star wars.
>>63213919
Fucking hell. I forget how compromising that scene is.
>>63214289
Explain.
>>63213736
It's like everyone forgot about his first 3 movies.
PETER JACKSON HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOF
The reason LOTR is so much better than The Hobbit is because he didn't really have his heart in doing The Hobbit. He tried to push it off on others for almost a decade.
>>63213919
He basically admitted that he was making shit up as he was going on with filming, and it's also very clear that he was only there for the money while LOTR had all his heart put in it

I wasn't moved in the slightest by GotF, maybe because everything was so tragic from the get go that a little girl dieing of hunger didn't seem that much of a sad event

what a reddit response
>>63212890
I can see the exact moment where they would. The perfect setup with those gay ass flowers falling, and then the mighty king starts bawwing like a bitch with that obviously fake expression. McKellen is teary-eyed, but his sadness seems genuine because he's not a hack like the other actor.
>>63215306
>has never seen or experienced actual pure sobbing sadness.
That's generally how it looks man.
>>63215340
You mean it's generally how a hack actor forces himself to look sad for a scene. There's a reason McKellen elicits twice as much emotion by just standing there.

>>63214900
Reddit: the post. Pseudo intellectual response of a moron that doesn't realize that the reason why emotional moments need to be subtle is so the viewer can forget for a moment that it's just a movie he is watching - ham-fisted messages, moments and agendas feel out of place because it's not how real life works - I guess you're the one in dire need of leaving the basement Mr. Redditor.

I didn't like Buffy, but that ep is really great, i respect all the bold choices Whedon made in it.
It actually gets better as you age and experience situations like that where something terrible happens and you just have to take care of everything.
>>63214573
Same, I didn't give a fuck and even had a giggle sometimes because of how tryhard the movie was.
From the first minute of the movie, you know that the guy died and her sister was nowhere to be found, so there was no surprise.
>>63216410
This nigger gets it. I've seen my father break down like this and its pretty damn powerful, hell i have a few times. You don't have to be stoic with a single tear to be ultra sad. Sometimes you just have to let out raw emotion and sob like nothing else.

It's a touching scene but it highlights the worst of contemporising of the written work. Coincidentally this is something that Tolkien augured against in his lifetime and that is on how his characters spoke
>Theoden would certainly think, and probably say 'thus shall I sleep better'! But people who think like that just do not talk a modern idiom. You can have 'I shall lie easier in my grave', or 'I should sleep sounder in my grave like that rather than if I stayed at home' – if you like. But there would be an insincerity of thought, a disunion of word and meaning. For a King who spoke in a modern style would not really think in such terms at all, and any reference to sleeping quietly in the grave would be a deliberate archaism of expression on his part (however worded) far more bogus than the actual 'archaic' English that I have used. Like some non-Christian making a
reference to some Christian belief which did not in fact move him at all.
The offender in this scene is Theoden using the words "Parent" and "Child" when in truth he would say "Father" and "Son". But unfortunately people like PJ and Fran Walsh couldn't accept that
>>63219700
Real shame they cut out Theodred's funeral from the theatrical editions. I think it's the only scene from the EE that shouldn't have been left out. It's so important in so many different ways.

the movie was fucking dogshit, ruined by its characters. j. chastains character and every other women in the movie were annoying and behaved like 8 year old kids.
>>63219777
Honestly, of all the EE (which are fantastic), I think Two Towers is the one that improves the most. Scenes like this one, the extended prologue with Saruman's voice over, more of wormtongue, "Sons of Gondor" flashback, add so much depth to the characters and backstory, it really jars me to watch the theatrical version.
Also, checked.
>>63214289
compromising?
>>63220749
Actually gonna amend my own comment and say that Return of The King extended edition didn't really add much to it.
>>63220838
Return of the King is the weakest of three. While Frodo and Sam scenes where great the whole Gondor fight and the shit Ghost Army cop out where weak.
Also a question why does Hollywood put every soldier and orc in full plate armour and then have them be easily killed although a full plate armour should protect you from a lot of shit. Taht irked me already in Two Towers where Sarumans entire army was outfitted with top notch plate armour.
https://youtu.be/HU7Ga7qTLDU
I know this answer is meme as fuck, but what really makes me teary eyed about this one that it's just so genuine. It isn't Batty telling this to Deckard, it's Rutger Hauer talking to Harrison Ford. Like when he tries to come up with a metaphor and it suddenly hits him and you can hear his voice tremble just a bit as he realizes what he just said.

>>63216293
it was the 5-7 years or so after 9/11 that american shows got really overblown with sentimentality. but it didn't feel sappy. it felt warm and spirited because after 30-40 years of postmodernism that led us down the path of nothingness (like in seinfeld) where every story was as valuable or insubstantial as the next, those attacks were the final straw. It was that act of unadulterated nihilism that made us dig deep, devote ourselves in spite of everything because what else would there be to lose.
Now it's simply confusing as that moment recedes into memory where we can't go back to any earlier time but there's nowhere to go from here either. It's in that post recovery immobilisation rather than in the immediate trauma where the market comes in its own.

This scene. Not necessarily because it's extremely depressing, but it sends a wave of melancholy and loneliness over my entire being. My current life is so consumed with apathy and the occasional bout of fury, it feels so nice to have a moment of peaceful sadness.

If the scene really was shown in theaters and people laughed, it'd be because it's a nervous laugh about the fact they don't know how to react to what they're seeing...

So many scenes in this movie, like the one where the father of the transvestite thanks the embalmers for making him realize that even though he disagreed with his son's decision to be a girl, he was still his son and loved him all the same, or the ending obviously.
But the one that destroyed me was thebathhouse lady's funeral, when both Daigo's wife and friend realizes how much his job is important to him and beautiful in a way, and when the bathhouse customer says his goodbye.
I know that was to be expected watching a movie about death, but goddamn this was too well made to not make me cry like a bitch.
The music helped too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiyFeT0Tpkk

The Deer Hunter is a film with so many feels in it for me. The opening sequence, filled with such optimism and happiness between Nick, Steve, and Michael as they prepare to go to Nam. Then when they are being held hostage and Steve and Michael are forced to play against each other in Russian Roulette. The link above, obviously, and also the funeral scene.
Something about the film really gets me deep in the feels.

fuck no nigger
i would have killed that guy with my fists, feeling his head squeezing in between my hands
This is basically the signal that the feels train is about to leave the station
And pretty much the whole of the funeral from a couple of episodes earlier
If you have no feels watching this, you're just completly dead inside
