And I've even actually bought the 4-years monthly thing and other stuff. There's not that much pirated things in this folder.
Sapphire and Steel range got closed 'cause of piracy and while i do upload some rare stuff like, say, "The Toy", don't flip the point over the head even if it's a maymay.

I remember some of the forums I used to frequent saying it was the worst episode before and after it aired and I never got it. It's one of my favorites.

I guess after NuWho started people were used to these season spanning atcs and even the "stand alone" eps had some bit or piece you could look back on and say, "oh it all fits together." So a truly stand alone episode, even a good one, would stand out as a blight.

It didn't help that the Disney franchise is/was/shouldnevervebeen going strong so the obvious comparisons got made.

still waitin on that spinoff

Why is it a good thing that he's more alien, wouldn't this "alienate" the viewer? In the past he seemed alien because of his tech, wisdom and intelligence and this was enough. The fact that he's now some grumpy turbo autist could be why people are switching off. It's a nice idea but it doesn't mean it will work.

No, because the doctor isn't the audience surrogate. If the companion was a CGI alien who doesn't act with human feelings, there would be nothing to relate to. As long as we have a 20 something companion who asks the questions that we as the audience might think, there's literally nothing wrong with the doctor himself being more distant and alien

"Personally, I think that's a hell of a HUMAN MOTHER THAT I HAVE"

>yfw

Seriously though, what if half-human happens? Moffat said he is changing something in canon that he is actually worried about and he wasn't worried about adding a secret god damn regeneration or retconning the defining event of RTDs series.

>>
>>63215546

They're right and wrong at the same time. Sure, stories got too complicated but they're not difficult to follow. Most of them are too boring too follow though. How many times did Rory die only for some paradoxical bullshit rezzing him again? Capaldi's season is slightly better but it suffers from similar bullshit mcguffins which would make it appear 'complicated' to plebs while it really isn't. It is, however, dull.

That said, the recent episode wasn't bad at all but it would've been a lot more significant if Clara wasn't such a bland character that nobody's going to miss. I could've understood the Doctor's pain more if Clara was actually more of a person instead of a rock.
>>
>>63215535
True but the Doctor still has to be likeable. Traditionally this is a kids/family show that had scary/horror elements, but with a strong positive message throughout. If you suddenly go all dark and brooding and put it on at 9pm we can't be surprised that some people will complain. Heaven Sent was a superb episode but it's true that some Who fans will praise any old shit they serve up these days.
>>
>>63215483
It juxtaposes his more human moments, making them all the more relatable. You know how helpless and childlike he seemed when Clara was dying? We all have moments like that, and it meant so much more because it reminded you he has feelings when you had almost forgotten. The companion is there to hold the viewer in the meantime.
>>

It's 100% possible to like an inhuman character, why do you think people like Malcolm Tucker or sheldon cooper? They're not people you'd necessarily want to be friends with, but they are entertaining characters to watch and 12 is the same

Yeah and even the writers and producers involved back then have admitted it didn't work. You have to try new stuff and evolve the show, you can't keep doing the same thing over and over without it getting boring, but you have to be careful because what you come up with might just be terrible. Not necessarily saying I think Capldi falls into that just yet but if Moffat has some overarching journey or point to all this I'd be interested to see it. I'm not sure I like an angry unstable Doctor who will threaten to fuck people over because he lost his companion. This isn't how I thought the Doctor would act and it feels more unpleasant than interesting to me.

Moffat does his best work on standalone episodes and while he's being reined in by lead writers with actual talent. Remember how good Blink was? Remember how the angels were subsequently completely ruined afterwards because Moffat just couldn't leave them alone? He has good ideas but he also has a ton of shit ideas. He needs other people who will execute his good ideas and dismiss his bad ideas.

As opposed to the duels in the OT?

I liked Clara at first but the last 2 series she's been bloody awful. She arrived as the Impossible Girl and became one of the most bland and forgettable companions ever.
>>
>>63215860
10 was Time Lord Victorious Waters Of Mars
Its not unprecedented for the doctor to get angry.
>>
>>63215893

The fight in Jedi was good too, it didn't need to be ultra choreographed because it was more about the character motives and emotions than the actual battle
Luke just fucking hacks at vader in rage until he cuts his arm off, it wasn't 'well choreographed' so to speak but it was infinitely better
>>
>>63215893
Well Obiwan pretty much wanted Vader to kill him, and before that they were basically just bantering.
>>
>>63215930
But the impossible girl stuff is what made her bland. Once they dropped that and never mentioned it again she got better.
>>
>>63215893

Did they actually have choreographing for that fight or were they making it up on the spot with no swordplay training?
>>
>>63215966

She became a total bint and it was clear Moffat had no idea what to do with her character anymore. Let's make her clever and sympathetic! No wait, let's make her wacky now! Haha she's almost dying and laughing away! Amazing writing! Okay now she's serious again and now she's brave! Someone replay her bravery 50 times. The viewers will love it.

Maybe she was bipolar or schizophrenic, though. Either way, she wouldn't be very likeable.
>>
>>63215893
>prequel duels
>convincing

Yeah leaping around swinging their swords at thin air sure was convincing.

The OT duel was the first time we saw two Jedi fight and hearing the sabres clash for the first time and the sense of power from these two wizards was intense as fuck and a little intimidating. Of course now kids are used to a million lightsabres on screen and are totally oblivious to this kind of context and subtlety. If it isn't a 15 minute fight with dramatic music and somersaults they don't want to know. Pleb as fuck.

>>
>>63215966
She was an active mystery that lingered for half a series and reached a satisfying resolution and explanation at the end. She arguably had the most unique relationship with the Doctor of any companion. Then she became a primary school teacher and instead of a girl that lived and died many times omg what the fuck is going on we were treated to an ongoing romance with Danny "Mr Charisma" Pink.
>>
>>63216043
>Yeah leaping around swinging their swords at thin air sure was convincing.
But that's not how the prequel duels were choreographed, you can't even keep your complaints straight.

The duels in the OT were basically improvised. This worked out okay in Empire, disastrously in A New Hope, and alright-ish in Jedi. There isn't a single moment of danger in the original or in Jedi, the actors would always hit each other's lightsaber or swing at empty space. Jedi at least looks okay if you don't think about it too much but once you notice it, it's ruined.

The choreography of the prequel duels was based on "marks", where a certain action is the signal to proceed to the next action. This is basically how all fight choreography in western films is done.
>>
>>63216067
No they didn't.

Library River was a very interesting character and worked in the way it screwed with The Doctors mind since his future meant he'd somehow become closer to this woman than anyone else since realistically whoever fathered his child/ren.
