Can we stop the meme that this is a bad movie. It's well shot and lit, Lisa is a good actress, Tommy has a strong screen presence, and it deals with themes of infidelity, friendship, and loss.

I FED UP WITH THIS THREAD

none of that adds up to a good movie. In film if it doesn't feel believable its not good. It doesn't matter that there's a lot of thought put into it. Art is all about feeling nothing more. And this movie feels ridiculous. However as ridiculous as the script and dialogue was in the hands of a great director, say David Lynch, and a great cast and crew it could have been pretty good
>>
>>63206050
If Lynch made this exact movie it would be a classic, but since a nobody made it, it's considered bad.

Hi doggy
>>
>>63205747
I saw this for the first time like a year ago, had no idea what it was about or why it was such a meme.

Then I found out that this was initially a play production, and well, that all makes sense now. The movie is played out as if it was on a stage. The script wasnt carried over well.

infidelity, friendship, and loss are not themes.

I like Lisa's boobs.
>>
>>63206284
it is a classic, it's just also considered bad

>didn't know anything about it except it was "hilariously bad"
>decided to watch it with my parents because the few clips seemed pretty goofy and mundane
>tfw essentially watched an hour and a half of soft core porn with my parents and they kept looking over at me like they were disappointed that I was their son

Remember how Greg Sestero sold his friend out to make money off a book? What a piece of shit. Even included Tommy's whole lifestory, despite Tommy repeatedly telling Greg not to reveal even minor details about him.
>>
this thread is a joke

a proto-meme if you will

don't let it survive the gestation /tv/

abort. abort.
>>
>>63206645

Just read the book. I get the feeling that Greg needs the money and he doesn't care anymore if Tommy gets butthurt or not. And who knows if any of that stuff about Tommy's life is true or not. Greg could've just made that shit up for the book.
>>
>>63206645
Yeah, that really made me lose respect for him.
Tommy clearly has a weird past he doesn't want known for whatever reason, now the faggot who hasn't landed any other acting gigs scrapes up shekels by divulging all of his secrets.

>>
>>63206284
if Lynch make this movie, critics, audience alike will treat it like his Dune
>>
>>63205747
it still had flaws
>>
>>63206284
Lynch would not star in his own movie so he could force a sex scene that is repeated twice, shoot on two different cameras simultaneously because he didn't understand the difference between film and digital, put a green screen on a roof in order to fake that they're on a roof or fumble his lines for 40+ takes and then just say fuck it and wing something no human being would ever say aloud.
I get what you're saying, but even if both have this otherworldly, alien quality to them and their films, everything Lynch does is marked by confidence, artistry and a great understanding of the medium, and that singular, beautiful thing Tommy did was a poorly planed outsider art disaster that was not meant to be received the way it did at all.

It was worth it for the fascinating stories about Greg and Tommy going on roadtrips and Tommy fucking up his lines, if anything it made me respect Tommy a lot more for being so dedicated to what he loves.

The Disaster Artist is a grade a book and these threads got me to read it.

When's the documentary ("the room full of spoons") coming out?
>>
>>63206590
This is why you always check the imdb parental guide before watching anything with your parents or anyone who's not your best friend.

>>63207903
Does anyone who's playing Greg Sestero in the Franco film?
>>
>>63210562
This. The final couple of paragraphs of the book gave me weapons grade feels
>>
>>63210525

You're just saying that because you take Lynch at his word whenever he says something is intentional and you won't give weasal the same courtesy. OP blew you the f o. Get over it
>>
>>63210340
Haha, what a story OP
>>
>>63211017
The audiobook is great as well, Greg does some quality Wiseau impressions
>>
>tfw The Room was watered down by Sandy and we never got Tommy's unchanged script or full artistic vision including flying vampire cars
>>
I am so glad I have you as my best friend and I love OP so much *cheeps*
>>
>>63211537
The script Tommy sells on his (hosted on what I from the response times presume is a Commodore 64) website contains some of his original genius, such as for example
>the drink Lisa makes Tommy drink is vodka and hot chocolate
>Chris R. and Denny originally toss a ball around when they talk (before Chris R. flips out)
>its specifically stated in the beginning of the alley football scene that Mark comes in with a basketball
>a scene where Lisa makes Tommy pasta and tells him that he hit her while drunk
>a second mention of Claudette's cancer
>>
So it's pretty well established Tommy got into a car wreck and that's why he's fucked up in the head?

Its nothing too big, but still enough to make you wonder why the fuck they cut it out of the final film.

Btw the script came with tighty whities designed by Tommy. They've got a small pocket in them.

Damn, Sacha Baron Cohen probably could've played a great Tommy.
Fuck James Franco for forcing his stoner bros comedy onto The Disaster Artist.

Who's Ayy Weed Lmaoo playing? Denny?
>>
I loved The Neighbors. It¨s apparent Wiseau caught wind of the "so bad it's good" appeal he has and he exploited it, but it's still fucking bizarre on a whole new level. It's almost like a nightmare. Bravo Tommy

I want Danny McBride to play Denny and just keep watching Johnny fucking Lisa with a creepy look on his face
>>
Franco wrote about the book a couple years ago, might give a hint of what the movie's going to be like

>This is the deeper level of Tommy: he is just a lonely little boy who wants love. He, like so many people with stars in their eyes, sees film not only as a medium of expression, but the gate to acceptance. It is the place where his work will find like-minded people who will learn to love him through his work, not only because of it. This is the hope of most artists, and the book turns Tommy’s sometimes ridiculous struggle into a paradigm for those wishing to be creative in a world where it is usually too hard to be.

>>63212213
Some of the stories in that like that Don guy having to show Tommy his ass for the part, only for him to give to Greg anyway after he'd signed the contract are more fucking bizarre than anything in the film
