Where were you when Liv Tyler became the most terrifying actress on TV?
>>
>>63200088
She was great in this episode.
>>
>I'll fuck you and do some nervous coke induced laughing

GIVE HER AN EMMY
>>
I see her hairy puss puss and go cum crazy for she
>>
Man, you people are easy to impress, i thought she was her usual terrible self, they just knew how to use her woodness properly, she was like JJ in Mad Men
>>
I'm getting a horrible feeling that the finale is going to be trash just because of how much shit they'll have to cram into an episode
>>
>>63200241
Here's a trailer for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjkd9vN3bfA which manages to show nothing and be spoler-y as fuck at the same time.

So, girls are going to hang themselves from the bridge just like in that dream which means their storyline and Kevin's fuck-up will be resolved pretty easily
>>
>>63200179
>They just knew how to use her woodness properly

She isn't the most amazing actress, but we're not talking JJ levels of limited range. I agree in the sense that her voice is pure deadpan, but her facial acting was far from wooden in the last episode - she looked downright psychotic whether she was smiling or staring blankly.
>>
>>63200345
Eh, i think JJ was great as Betty all-around, not just when she was bitchy, there's an episode later in the run(s6 i think?) where she fucks Don just for kicks and she was great in it, while being much more lively than usual
>>
>tfw Liz gets BLACKED
It was such a good show, why this?
>>
>>63201107
He won't put it in, no worries.

Also, Wayne was Evil.
>>
How do I become a leader like Meg? To truly compel people to follow you it seems like I need an answer, or an idea. What should my idea be?
>>
>>63201107
Michael is the whitest character on the show
>>
>>63201468
If you have to ask..
>>
>>63201537
Definitely one of the most Based too, he BTFO of Jill in that church scene. In fact, the Murphy's have a record of BTFO the Garvey's.
>>
>>63201468
There is literally no reason for people to follow her. She has no charisma.
>>
>>63202893
She was clearly promoted to a position of some authority, although that doesn't make much sense itself from what little we saw in Season 1. Then charisma doesn't come too much in play when you're communicating through permanent marker,
>>
I only watched the pilot but lost any interest I had in it because it was really slow and boring. Is this episode worth watching the rest of the series first to get the full impact of whatever the fuck happened in this show because it seems to be getting a lot of buzz.
>>
>>63203123
It's probably not your speed if you dropped it in one, no.
>>
>>63203123
This episode isn't, but the episode before it definitely was. It starts slow, but it grows on you after a few episodes.
>>
>>63203231

I don't mind a slow burner and I can tolerate lots of crap if I at least get something in return. For example True Blood- I stuck with that show til the end, and it got really bad, but at least was still fun and campy and deliberated great character moments and fan service. I only I only watched 1 episode, but since this is a Damon Lindelof show, I really didn't have much excitement or any real interest other than liking the concept and the fact that it's an HBO show.
>>
>>63203443
If you made it through True Blood, you can definitely make it through this. The second season definitely lives up to the hype.
>>
What's with this show? Why is every female except for Liz completely out of her fucking mind?

Nora, Laurie, Meg, Patti, Christine, black bird killer, even the mayor was fucking Kevin's ancient-ass dad of all people. Kevin has a serious medical condition and still seems more stable than them.
>>

So what purpose does the guilty remnant have?

They're supposed to "make people remember" and refuse them from living on pretending everything is okay, but let's say that they convert everyone.... what then?
They're obviously not religious and they don't seek any answers as to what happened, they just focus on annoying people with no end goals whatsoever.
>>
>>63203680
>but let's say that they convert everyone.... what then?
It doesn't look like their goal is mass conversion, literally just being a reminder.
>they just focus on annoying people with no end goals whatsoever.
Kevin's "destroy families" line might have been close to the truth.
>>
>>63203680
Now that we know their purpose of lack thereof, the show seems to be moving away from a strong focus on them.

From here on out it'll likely be more about the GR only with respect to those that have defected or splintered from the group (like with Laurie and seemingly Meg).
>>
>>63203848
why isn't the ATF wiping these motherfuckers out like they did with based wayne?
>>
>>63203848
>the show seems to be moving away from a strong focus on them.

Not really.
The culmination of S1 was an event staged by the GR, the culmination of S2 is also going to be an event staged by the GR.

There was not ever a strong focus on them but they seem to be the ones making important plot leaps for the rest of the characters, who individually have their own arcs and issues.

The same way S1 ended with the GR basically "finishing" a location, narratively speaking it seems that in S2 they will do something that will make the characters leave Miracle.
>>
>>63204038
I think they have their hands full. Kevin trying to get a hold of the agent in charge was played like the guy was avoiding him but he said he was busy with some mess in Florida. Then he checked with him what cult it was and guessed wrong. So most likely there's a lot of cults and they aren't moving against the more passive ones like the GR just yet.
I want to see more of those cults really.
>>
>>63204101
But Meg seems to be orchestrating the event and again she seems to represent a separate radical sect of the GR as we see at the farm outside Jarden.

The original GR may have outlived its usefulness both in terms of their place in the show's world and in the plot itself.
>>

Doesn't bother me because he's not a nig and he's a nice looking guy.

Liv Tyler impressed me in this episode. I've never seen her act that well before especially the scene with tommy where she was laughing.

All the women on The Leftovers are knocking out of the park this season. Hope they get Emmy noms.
>>
>>63200088

Her performance in that episode was legitimately abysmal and anyone who liked it should feel embarrassed.
>>
>>63204445
That shit was real nigga
Weren't no dream
>>
>>63203123
The writers and creator said they are not answering how or why people disappeared so if you're okay with that and the show being focused on characters then watch it. If not, don't.

Also, S2 > S1
>>
>>63204746
She was fine in the bar
You know nothing of acting
You sound poor and uneducated
Bet you've never been to college
Too real? Sorry dummy.
>>
>>63204746
Very true. Liv Tyler is the only weak spot in the cast at the moment.
>>
>>63203123
Stupid people really hate this show. Not saying liking it makes you smart, but needing what it won't give (an answer to HURR DURR WHERE'D THEY ALL GO AND WHAT FOR??!!!1!!) and not understanding why it gives what it does makes you dumb as shit. They've already said they won't explain it to weed out fucking idiots. If you're cool with that, watch.

Sounds like the pacing's already bothering you, so, you may be coming down on the dumb side.
>>
>>63203123
>>63204973
Just saw post where you said you watched all of Tru Blood. Yeah. Don't watch Leftovers. You sound like an idiot.
>>
>>63204882
>She was fine in the bar

That was literally the point where I said out loud "Just fire her".

>>63204945

Yeah, I wouldn't care at all if the rest of the cast weren't hitting it out of the park.
>>
>>63204746
No it wasn't. Her performance was just OKAY. The only reason you think it was bad is because every other actor is killing it.
>>
>>63204856
Definitely wasn't a dream. Some katabasis type shit.
>>
>>63205173

I dunno. I really dislike some of her choices. The childlike singsong voice and the painfully-conscious refusal to blink during her monologues. Just some of the most embarrassingly sophomoric acting cliches when it comes to a character in her condition.

The hell of it is, I think her character in itself is great, I love where they're going with that. I just think she's stinking up the part.

Maybe you're right and my venom is magnified by disappointment and contrast. Wait and see, maybe she'll be merely irritating come next week.
>>
>>63205320
Her acting annoys the shit out of me.
>>
>>63204973
lmao sounds like he was just trying to avoid the same thing that happened with lost because all they have is a neat concept but no satisfying way to conclude it

I really enjoyed that episode, don't get me wrong. That would be my second favourite of the season.

No Room at the Inn just took me on such a ride, though.
>>
>>63205794
Matt's episodes are always great. His character is one of the most complex on the show.
>>
>>63205684

Personally, I thought the episode involving Nora, episode 6, was the best. But Matt's was great too.

>>
>>63211020
We got a little background on meg, tied her to jarden and got her and tommy there, showed us the fight he and laurie had, and foreshadowed the big reveal at the end. The filler of the episode may have been the stop at the bar. That took maybe 5 minutes.
>>
>>63211114
I suppose. Did you find it believable that Tommy would rejoin the Guilty remnant despite all of his actions to work against it?
>>
>>63200088
her acting was good but this was the worst episode of the season.
>>
>>63211175
When Tommy's first recruiting out of the GR for Laurie he tells her they're offering something and she immediately tells him he's done. It is very easy to drink the kool-aid after spending time on the inside.
And even with Tommy blubbering about wanting to be a part of it, he's also heavily stuck on meg and more about that in the last episode.
>>

Okay, faggots. All I keep hearing from you and LeReddit and every other swinging dick online is how great Season 2 is and how I really need to give this show another chance (because I watched the first season and it was fucking garbage).

So, I watched the first episode and already we've got new Lost-esque mysteries being introduced with this Miracle place, there's a fucking apparently a bird surviving in a buried box somehow, etc.

Am I reading this wrong or is Lindelof starting to pull his Lost shit with this show? I was fine with the rapture part never being explained, but if they're going to do that "new mystery every episode" shit that Lost pulled then I'm fucking out.

So what's the deal?
>>
Anyone here was spooked at fuck by that scene in the s01e10 when the remnants put replicas of the departed in everyone's houses ?

In terms of viewership, not at all.

In terms of this board, it's The Knick. The Leftovers and Fargo might (deservedly) get more attention, but they offer more much more than House with grungier aesthetics, a weak ensemble of characters and banal commentary on social values.

The Knick has really strong qualities, like the soundtrack, the acting, the sets, and to a lesser extent, the character writing. It's a bit overrated here because of the /pol/lacks themes due to the 1910s settings, but it's not bad.
>>
>>63224809
I think it's not so much a /pol/ fanbase but more the gorefags. The characters and plotlines would have been perfectly at home on ER, General Hospital, Chicago Hope etc.

>That scene where Child Patti is listing all the things her abuser told her

That was some premium television there lads.

Maybe it's on account of the stronger material, but does anyone else think Justin Theroux's acting has improved this season? S1 only had me liking Matt, Nora and Laurie but I found myself really rooting for Kevin this time around
>>
After all this shit Kevin goes trough in Season 2, when does he find time to work out?

This show is so good, why ruin this little detail. He is ripped as shit.
>>
>>63225920
Kevin had to keep it together and be in authority at work or with his family a lot in s1, this time we're seeing a lot more of him on his own, being tormented by Patti or being more open to Nora and Jill. So JT is just getting more range out of the part now.

The show thus far answers every question it presents with the exception of where The Departed are. Obviously, they're not dead, because none of them were in the Limbo Hotel. So we're getting ideas about it. It's a show that has a lot going on and someone like you who watched LOST couldn't get it. Lost was mediocre and Leftovers is God Tier.
>>

What's this show even about anymore?
I watched the first season were people were angry all the time, and I guess the mystery was never a plot point, but after watching the first episode of the second season it came to me that this looks like a bad series, always gloomy, sad and angry.
So, is it any good (like, it got better from season1) or it got bad?
>>
>>63226548
I've watched season one about 8 or 9 times at this point, and there are no bad episodes. There's episodes where you aren't sure what info you need the first time you watch it, sure, but on repeat viewings, there's no wasted scenes. It's an amazingly well-crafted first season.

I'm also in the camp, apparently a minority, that Meg, Patti, Gladys, and Laurie were the most interesting part of s1. I'm also a sucker for s1 Jill who has been tragically underutilized this season.

S2 feels like a different kind of show. Season one was really amazing start to finish for me. I'm obsessed with it. And while s2 has been pretty good, got it doesn't have the bleak depression vibe that made season one so fucking perfect.

>Obviously, they're not dead, because none of them were in the Limbo Hotel.
that's a BIG assumption

we have nothing concrete about the "limbo"-hotel and how it works + we lack the basic understanding of life after/beyond death within the show and in real life
>>
>>63226623
s1 was perfect. but because it really was 2deep4u, it has become an interesting exercise in selling out. The show was dark and colorless and really fucking smart in s1. Now it's about cliffhangers. That epic intro in s1 has become a yodeling and way too on-the-nose pile of shit. I mean, a show about internalized trauma is now about muh twists. The general public has once again ruined art with their shit taste.
>>
>>63225154
Yeah I love the ER when the Doctor infected his newborn baby with meningitis and then his wife went crazy and killed the baby he got to replace the old one and then he had her committed and her psychiatrist took all of her teeth out. Or the General Hospital where the owner of the hospital was indebted to a mobster for frequenting one of his whores so he had a Chinaman kill him. Or the Chicago Hope where the Bubonic Plague broke out.

Do you mean that ugly painting paired with one of the weaker pieces of music by Max Richter?
>>
>>63226738
One thing that I really liked about season 1 was that it was really character driven, and how the stand-alone episode that didn't followed dad were great and also connected with the wholse story. Sad to hear s2 became a commercial whore
>>
>>63226736
See, I totally disagree. What we saw in International Assassin is how death works. I have a viewer's agreement with this series that what is presented is reality and that means that if they're showing me a limbo hotel, then that's that. That's where people are when they die. Mary is there, confirming Matt is a rapist. The bird is there, confirming a wish didn't come true. ("I sure hope they don't catch that bird!") I mean, yeah, I might be wrong as early as the finale, but I've watched and analyzed this show and it's storytelling choices an awful lot. I'm pretty sure that shit was real. And that means Virgil was real. Which probably means Kevin and KGsr's visions are also real. And I'm cool with that. As long as Azrael, "a matter of geography," and "lens effect" are all bullshit.
>>
>>63226738
ALso, anyone knows what the fuck was the point of the cavemen intro of season 2?

No one said those plotlines were from those other shows, only that they could have been. All those shows dealt with issues like highly infectious outbreaks, hospital staff as carriers and questionable, sometimes criminal personal lives of the doctors themselves.
>>
>>63226936
The point was that there are natural processes that go around in this area (and more) that are somewhat normal.

This happened before, it will happen again.

The circle of life.

shit like that
>>
>>63226936
It's a thematic mirror of the season. Expect the finale to touch on dead moms, children, signs from god in the likely form of a bird (kevin ignored the squawking eagle from the cavewoman right after he pushed child patti in the well)

Nowhere near as brilliant as the season 2 intro.
>>
>>63226880
>Mary is there, confirming Matt is a rapist.
Not necessarily, Kevin's return suggests it's possible to leave and come back. Matt is looking for evidence of Mary coming out of it and talks to her catatonic face about it when they're all alone, without knowing she was pregnant. We also see Mary talking from the car from his perspective. Either she comes out of it or he hallucinates that she does.
>>
>>63226936
You remember where the Well was that Patti got pushed into? That's where the cavewoman died. Exact same spot. The AXIS MUNDI. The earth's umbilical cord, the place where this realm and the next connect.
>>
>>63227057
the season two intro is garbage. if you actually have to tell the audience "let the mystery be," then your audience is stupid and doesn't deserve your show.
>>
>>63226981
With that logic they could be plotlines on any show. And before you boiled them down to their bare essentials they would never have been on those other network television shows.
>>
>>63227110
I only watched the first episode. I might finish the season when flash gets on hiatus
>>
>>63227067
It was more than obvious that was Matt hallucinating. Mary has never woken up. Mary in the hotel is confirmation.

>With that logic they could be plotlines on any show.
Mainly just hospital shows.
>before you boiled them down to their bare essentials they would never have been on those other network television shows.
Of course they could have, go watch them. What's the big difference between having a plague outbreak on the Knick and the TB outbreak on ER? Or Thack from The Knick getting hooked on narcotics and Carter from ER getting hooked on narcotics? That every last line of dialogue didn't match? That the setting is a hundred years in the past? I'll give you those, bud.
>>
>>63227263
It doesn't matter. If the answer is heaven, nowhere, hell, saturn... Changes nothing about the show.
>>
>>63227263
>realized i got rused and the writers had no intention of explaining the sudden disappearance
This was made clear in episode 1, how were you rused into thinking the show revolved around explaining it? Who did you think was going to reveal it?
>>
>>63227384
dude, he's trolling
>>
>>63227332
The big difference is the context and the setting. Picking out similar plot points does not mean the shows are similar beyond a superficial level. Is this show like Dexter because it has ghost hallucination characters?
>>
>>63227263
It was aliens, or DIO. No way it was God because God's rapture always take people in a beam of light

>>

>>

Awesome, since I never implied the context or setting were the same and even conceded this point to you before you made it.
>>
>>63227407
It's a very popular troll and i'd like to know if it has some basis in reality. No one that's following the show has any illusion of it being a mystery surrounding the departure but we still get people popping in these threads to inform us it'll never be answered and it's Lindelof fooling us.
>>
>>63227749
Not really bro. You're trying to hard to hate an amazing show.
>>
>>63227743
Perth, obviously. It's only been hinted at all fucking season.
>>
>>63228056
There are people who think it matters who is writing a TV show. It doesn't.

I don't know who Damon Lindleberg is. I never watched ISLAND. I don't give a fuck about Alien 0. I watch THE LEFTOVERS, it is very good, and I don't give a shit what 4chan thinks of it.
>>
>>63228157
So I got interested in the whole Perth angle and was thinking about the whole "Axis Mundi" thing and I started to wonder what if there was some spiritual axis running through the earth where Perth is one pole and ...something is the other pole on the other side.

I totally thought it would end up being somewhere in Texas which would end up being our geographical / spirtual connection, through this weird supernatural axis of the earth, connecting Perth to Jarden, possibly even via a magic well, which could explain the connection Tommy experienced with his dad in the mirrored hotel room in Perth.

Anyway, turns out the axis from Perth to the other side of the world misses the US by a bit. But it does hit a surprisingly small target in the middle of the Atlantic right on the nose: the island of Bermuda.

>>
>>63229859

>>
>>63229981
It's hard to see hothead John waiting til his 20s-30s to get revenge on his father for that. Michael on the other hand was a kid at the right time. It was all very unclear from the way they discussed it, Kevin asked if he was Michael's grandfather and then he says "I hurt him, and he hurt me".
>>
>>63227972
So we are in agreement then? Saying the Knick is just like those shows is akin to saying Patch Adams is like Dead Ringers?
>>
>>63228807
And people vehemently deny this show is like Lost.
>>
>>63230112
I didn't see either of those. ER and The Knick are pretty close though.
>>
>>63230106
just rewatched the scene, it's pretty clear to me they are talking about John at that point
>>
>>63230369
Just rewatched again myself, didn't catch that Virgil said he hurt him "a long time ago", it does sound more like John. I still think it would have made more sense with Michael, but I can see that's not really supported here.
>>

They are two tenuously related films whose only similarity is the fact that the main characters are doctors and they take place in hospitals. Like ER and The Knick.
