What do you guys think of TV Tropes?
>>63179785
I like it. Its fun reading trivia about film and video games I like.
Useful notes about historical events is interesting too and unlike wikipedia they leave opinions out of the main articles and in YMWV or whatever its called.

reddit: the website
the weird not sure if legit fan trivia shit, why is it on there, who are they people who write for this site.
>>63179785
As this is /tv/, I'm obligated to say I hate it.They censor everything pretty heavily, including loli stuff.
>>63180351
what does this even mean? reddit the website would be reddit.com
>>63179785
A bretty good screening tool to weed out shows that I won't like.
>>63179785
It's a great site for reference, but absolutely horrendous community inhabits it.
>>63181382
hello reddit
Its a time waster
I really hate when people talk about tropes in public though
it's a good resource, though it's community is cancer
should get a overhaul in its design and code. they should just move everything to the wikia format.
It could have been a really great resource, but fell victim to the two types of nerd cancer.
1) stupid in-joke trope names for everything so that it is as inaccessible as possible unless you have crossed a certain nerd literacy threshold. this wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't so cross-referenced that you have to know five different tropes to be able to parse one paragraph.
2) obsessive need to discover new tropes (probably for the privilege of naming them after your favorite MLP character) so that there are now five tropes where one should do

It's the reason anita sarkeesian got popular. she ripped everything from there

Hello autist.

>>63179785
It was pretty cancer back when they had Troper Tales, as it attracted a lot of neckbeards, fedoras and tumblr types to apply "tropes" from their favourite works of fiction to real life to justify their bizarre lifestyles, which is an inherently autistic thing to do. That being said, Troper Tales was legendary for the cringe therein and browsing the archives of them is hilarious to this day.

Yeah, Fast Eddie (the admin) took a no tolerance policy towards loli and anything pedo related after a bunch of people made fun of them for it. It was hilariously unrelenting at first. He even deleted the pages for Lolita and Vladimir Nobokov, as if Lolita is on par with your average hentai anime. (The pages are back up now, I believe)
I stopped liking it the moment they made the site too family friendly,

This.
Its a useful tool for writing, but people put far more value in it than it deserves
>>63179785
Fun to browse through.
Cancerous community.
There is nothing worse than that asshat who keeps quoting TVTropes when discussing things.
It's annoying if he things that makes him funny.
It's fucking unbrearable if he thinks that makes him smart.
a shitty wiki written by 16 year old weebs, it's basically just autist bait
It's surprisingly fun and compelling to browse and handy if you want to discover shows/books/games that feature some specific plot or setting or character type you like. A lot of it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt though, it's not exactly an academic resource.
The big problem outside of the general autism is how bread the categorization is. It becomes comical at points, it's basically like
>The Wire
>Trope: Eats A Banana
>Inverted, McNulty doesn't eat a banana in this scene
You can add every trope on the planet to any page with that attitude.
>>63179785
A bunch of cancerous splerges shoving in endless references to their fav shows or shows they create.
Also, have fun you guys:

>>63184974
I had no idea this section of TVTropes ever existed and I was fucking heartbroken that I had missed it. Thanks for the handpicked selection of the cringiest shit to come out of there, I don't know why I am enjoying this so much but it's even more addictive than the site itself.
was pissed they gave TM2 best car combat game and didn't even mention the greatest game ever made, Twisted Metal Black.
>>63186634
nevermind, that was watchmojo
it doesn't stop television/film writers from using the most obvious ones time and time again. it's one thing to point them out, which anyone over the age of 5 can do, it's another thing to stop them altogether
>>63185635
This.
>The Wire
>Trope: Eats A Banana
>Subverted, McNulty doesn't eat a banana in this scene
>Inverted, the banana eats McNulty.

REDDIT ALERT REDDIT ALERT
The site itself isn't terrible, their useful notes sections are actually pretty in depth and free of autism. If you avoid the anime (which is good advice in general, honestly) sections, or shit like doctor who then you can pretty easily not notice the autism.
I read it when I can't sleep. Works like a charm eventually and the next morning I just close all the tabs.

Its a great time waster. Depending on the page, its also great for catching up on shows you missed with episode recaps. Plus the insane amount of trivia is always a fun read.
I laugh like a maniac whenever i read the page for Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
