Nah they reined it in somewhat for seasons 3 and 4. Season 5 they had to awkwardly fix what the author screwed up by splitting the books so the seams showed again. As the show goes on and the scope starts to retract you'll see an increase in quality. The best seasons of the show will probably end up being S1 and the final season for this reason.

Mad Men's lack of plot is one of it strongest elements. It's a show about people and life and neither is laid out systematically beforehand

Game of Thrones does have a more complex plot then Madmen. There's literally nothing false about that statement. It doesn't make GoT better, but it is much more plot-heavy.

Except it is, GoT had one good opening season and then the show went downhill since season 2.
Both TD seasons had better acting and better direting than any GoT season, season 1 was one of the best written season in any TV show,seeing that True Detective has stand alone seasons there's still a good chance S03 will be good while GoT's next seasons will even worse than S05.
TD S02 was bad compared to the first season but compared to GoT S05 it's a fucking masterpiece
