Only one I can come up with right now. I think they're alright. It's cool how their physiology mirrors the design of the war-machines they use, makes me think of tripods being to them what mechas are to us.

The Brain Bug equivalent from the hit Visual Novel Muv Luv.
It refers to itself as the "Superior Existence", created by Silicon beings who might not even exist anymore, it carries out their will by spreading the BETA Hive across the universe. It doesn't perceive carbon based life as being "alive" so it's battle against humanity is no different than one's attempt to fight the forces of gravity(much to the frustration of the first humans to contact it).

That was a major point of the book, the aliens had developed technology to a state that replaces their own bodies, when one exits the tripod it's just a brain, eyes and apendiges to manipulate controls.

I fucking HATED the final form monster in the prequel. It was such a boring mess of crap CGI. That pilot looked like a life form, it had symmetry and limbs that would serve a space faring race. Instead we get fleshy lumps of teeth that were neither interesting nor scary.

Its use of non human intelligence to figure out what was going on and its use of instinctual intelegence makes it completely not human but more intelegent than the humans.

I doubt it. The effects still required CG additions to clean it up and remove wires and performers.

It's kind of sad in this day and age that some great practical effects can just be plastered over with poor CG due to executives.

>>
>>63168814
Right, but they shot the movie using particals right? In post they decided to go full blown CGI.

They can technically take the negatives and do a second post keeping the partical effects, green screening out the wires and stuff, and do a better job.

They did this TNG BD release. All the effects were done in 480 so they had to recreate every single effect from scratch in high deff, but keep them they were originally envision.
The entire series had to be reedited back from negative prints and recreated to match the original release.

Solaris is an exceptional example, and Lem knocked it out of the park with the utter alien-ness of Solaris itself.

We assume Clarke's aliens in 2001 are humanoid because they disguise themselves as Dave, but on his way to The Closed Room, he's sees "an interstellar parking lot full of derelict vessels fitted for beings with incomprehensible biologies" (paraphrased).
>>
>>63169698
>they disguise themselves as Dave
It's been a while since I read the novelization so I'm not assuming they didn't say this but... really?

That part at the end where he sees the older versions of himself is more symbolic and is meant to be himself "evolving", seeing his life flash by, etc.
>>
>>63153729

Cause he straight outta Compton, nigguh
>>
>>63169100
It probably depends on the rights, and the movie didn't do well at the box office so I doubt there is much push to redo it.

Maybe in 10-20 years if the movie gains a following.
>>
>>63169960
Now that you mention it, I might be mixing it up with Contact. I know the aliens had some knowledge of anthropoid biology since they provided a type of cereal and (blue?) milk for him to eat, but you're probably right about inferring that the 'hims' that he sees are Kubrick's way of signifying the passage of long spans of time in The Closed Room.
>>
>>63170238
Yeah.
>a type of cereal and (blue?) milk for him to eat
It was blue bread pudding-type stuff.
>>
>>63170466
Since it sounds like you've read it much more recently than me, is there any hint to non-corporeal beings as he travels through the suns? I have a vague recollection of some mention of Dave wondering about magnetic, vaporous beings possibly living in the sun itself, but it's been close to a decade since I've re-read it and I might be mixing that up with the parking lot.
>>
>>63170591
I don't remember that much, I read it about 3 years ago.

sounds familiar. in the book 2001 where he goes to that room its noted that everything there is a copy of real world items, but as if they are copied from a distance. there is a phone, but it doesnt work.
fridge is full of boxes containing some form of edible sludge.

its implied that someone observed earth from a far, and attempted to replicate living conditions. didnt know what was inside a fridge, but assumed it was some sort of nutrition.

the sun alien thing sounds familiar too.
I think they also mentioned on 2061 that Jupiter had life forms there too, floating in the atmosphere, and the monolith decided to sacrifice them in order to create a second sun because the life there had no where to evolve. No metal, no water, no way to use any intelligence it may posses.

In the book, it's stated that evolution has forsaken their bodies in favor of their brains, but they still have like 1000 fingered tentacles or some shit. I might have just made that up. I read it a year ago and I still can't remember shit. Lol, o well

Not a movie, but that mockumentary based off of Wayne Barlowe's aliens was pretty cool, even if almost none of the featured aliens were remotely humanoid or sentient.

On the other hand, these still remain to be the best sentient alien alien concepts in a while, >>63154081 >>63162617 in terms of actually, well, being completely alien in looks and behavior.

And of course there are the xenomorphs which are iconic for obvious reasons.
