What's the oldest film you've seen?

This one is also the most psychedelic film I've seen.
>>
Isn't that from smashing pumpkins
>>
I've seen many of those Melies shorts. He was really obsessed with decapitation.
>>
Why is this embarrassingly outdated shit even on Netflix?

Fun fact, the qt in the middle died 10 days after the scene was shot.

Maybe the camera did steal her soul.

Can you name the earliest feature film you've seen? Mine this.
>>
>>63109409
There weren't really feature films before that, lol.
>>
>>63109409
Mine's the OP's film. Birth of a Nation is fantastic, though. What country are you from?
>>
>>63109446
Sure they were. They started around 1910s.

The oldest one I have physically seen, not a digital reproduction, is... well... it isn't even on film. It's mutoscopes. They're giant wheels of frames printed on paper that flip around in a machine like a flip book. Does that count? A local arcade and a local amusement park has some from the 1930s and maybe earlier.
>>
>>63109409
OP movie is older by like 12 years.

It's actually really great, short, and unlike TBOAN, not racist.

Good times.

>>
>>63109683
But it's a short film, not feature. Anybody can watch them on youtube and claim to have seen earliest films.
>>
>>63109409
It's getting a remake, the director is a nigger too.
>>
>>63109721
as if anyone can't torrent Birth Of A Nation and other longer silent films too?

Huh. You can actually see the whole thing, saved as a 0.93 gig .webm file, off Wilipedia's page for him.

I saw his next Intolerance on AMC and that was long as fuck.
>>
>>63109743
not really a remake as much as an African American response from their view using the same title

then again, probrably more of a direct remake than some Hollywood remakes
>>
>>63109836
Yea, sitting through Birth of a Nation of Intolerance is quite a challenge. I never tried to watch Intolerance.
>>
>>63109836
>>63109721
Birth of a Nation is actually free, you can aslo see it on Youtube.
>>
>>63109554
If you haven't seen Sallie Gardner at a Gallop I don't think you can really call yourself a fan of movies
>>

Steamboat Willy is pretty much the gauge for when most films are no longer in the public domain. The only reason later films are public domain is if someone messed up like with Night Of The Living Dead.

In pretty awful quality last I checked. The recent blu-rays look great
I like Griffiths shorts more than BoaN. Battle of Elderbush Gulch has all the exciting parts of Birth without the racism and obscene runtime. Just 30 minutes long and on youtube
