I am yet to find a movie that captures the feel of utter depression. I havent found a movie that made me want to put an end to my being. Like Joy Division does for me. But there isnt the equivalent of Joy Division for films.

Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead

you probably do hate yourself, i sure hate you. and myself. but have you ever been near death? the few times i came close i fought like all hell to stay alive.
you probably don't want to die nearly as bad as you think.
A movie that lets you hate yourself but actually makes you somewhat happy at the end is Punch-Drunk Love
House of Sand and Fog
Dancer in the Dark
wristcutters
Blue Valentine
Grave of the Fireflies
Marketa Lazarova.
Persona.
A short film about Killing
Solaris 1972
Watched this movie at the lower point in my life; it's amazing.

Maybe if you put all of your attention on something you'd actually be able to escape into it and not think about how much you hate yourself.

i don't really think something like that is a choice
you either can or you can't
Pan's Labyrinth
Someone flew over the kekoo's nest
Big Fish
The Swimmer(1968), is a pretty underated and unknown movie. Its the most beautifully sad move I've ever seen, if you want depressing I'd watch it for sure.

I feel that escapism is like meditation. I couldn't really do it at first, but then - after a lot of practice - I was finally able to do it. And believe me its worth it.
My life still sucks but at least I'm not caught up in it.
must be extended
Stingoooooooooo
If you like Melancholia, Lars von Trier's next movie(s), Nymphomaniac vol. 1 & 2 are wonderful, Joe's life story is a hell of a ride
Elephant man
Synecdoche, New York
Essential I hate myself core

This is one of the best movies dealing with loss that I've ever seen. I'm planning on rereading the book soon. I would highly recommend reading the book if you enjoyed the movie.

It's just showcasing how people who are depressed aren't affected by disaster by all, which I find interesting
The choice of soundtrack and some of the visuals are 10/10 too. Made me feel

it's just that imdb ratings give high scores to things that are widely known
niche movies get a range from 6 to 7

God tier.

Absolutely loved the Clooney remake. But I'm a sucker for slow movies. That and About Schmidt are my fave slow burners.
>>63100558
Don't see how being surprised at a score makes me a pleb.

I agree.
Also Sandler's best film
