How do you feel about Millennium Actress?
How do you feel about Satoshi Kon?
>>
>>63081280
So many other directors deserve to be dead instead
>>
>>63082376
I honestly think Kon was one of the most talented and creative directors in the past 50 years. I've yet to find a single director with a style like his, live action or not,
>>
>>63081280
I'm not big on anime, and felt like a dirty weeb while watching it, but it was incredible. Same goes for Perfect Blue.
What Satoshi Kon film i should watch next?
>>
>>63083740
Paprika
>>
>>63083778
That's the one Nolan ripped off?
>>
>>63083851
With Inception? I think so.
>>
So was the Dream Machine thing finished yet
>>
>>63083883

And because of that Petersen dropped his planned Paprika adaptation.

>How do you feel about Millennium Actress?

It's the best animated film ever.

>How do you feel about Satoshi Kon?

He's the best animation director ever.
>>
>>63081280
Kon's best. Dreaming Machine WHEN.

>My parents followed my selfish wishes, and came the next day from Sapporo to my house. I can never forget the first words out of my mother's mouth when she saw me lying there.
>"I'm so sorry, for not bringing you into this world with a stronger body!"
>>
>>63081280
Millennium Actress had the best visual direction but was weak in terms of characters and story, I honestly didn't give a flying, tanlucent damn about what is happening, I just cared how about the beautiful transitions and cinematography. Tokyo Godfathers had an amazing cast and good story but it felt too "normal" visually, less like a Kon film. Perfect Blue had a perfect balance of both. Though I would have prefered if Paprika was that film, it would have been nice if his masterpiece was one with a more positive vibe and not a dark, psychological thriller.
>>63083851
Is this true? I heard this but without confirmation. After all, entering someone's dreams isn't the most original concept. I remember The Prisoner having an episode like that and it was made in 1967.

This one.

>Is this true?
Certain scenes and concepts are clearly inspired by it, the dream elevator, or the world shattering like an invisible mirror.

It's not as blatant as Black Swan.
>>
>>63084036

>Black Swan
>Kon ripoff

The only people who say that have literally never seen a Dario Argento horror movie in their life.
>>
>>63081280
He makes the best Anime I have ever seen.
>>
>>63083778
I felt like Paprika was a 6/10, starts strong and goes to shit.
>>
>>63083740
Paprika
>>
>>63084074
The director loves Perfect Blue, already used an identical scene from it in Requiem for a Dream and even bought the American filming rights to it to he could rip it off forever.

You only have to watch the movies to see it. It's beyond obvious.

Satoshi Kon was truly one of kind and it's incredibly sad that he's gone.

>>63083740
Watch all of them, doesn't matter the order. Don't forget Paranoia Agent.

Tokyo Godfathers is really good also

Kon.
>>
>>63083951

Came here to post this. I remember the day he died everyone went to /a/ to pay their respect.
>>
>>63084012

>Is this true?

Probably not, cause otherwise Nolan would've known what 180° rule is.

Perfect Blue was an awesome movie, I didn't like millennium Actress that much though.
>>
>Kon is dead
>Studio Ghibli is functionally dead
Who's left to make anime films now? Hosoda, Shinkai?
>>
>>63086006
>Hosoda, Shinkai?

That would be very unfortunate.
>>
>>63083740
Watch Paranoia Agent if you want to indulge deeper into your dirty secret. Kon explored different ideas he had for movies and fit them together into a single anime series.

"In the case of a film to be shown at theatres, I'm working for two years and a half, always in the same mood and with the same method. I wanted to do something that allows me to be more flexible, to realize instantly what flashes across my mind. I was also aiming at a sort of entertaining variation, so I decided to go for a TV series."

>How do you feel about Millennium Actress?
Best Kon movie and one of my favorite anime.
>How do you feel about Satoshi Kon?
Died a bit too soon, I would have liked to see more movies by him (at least 2 or 3), especially since Paprika wasn't good. The industry needs more guys like him.
>>
>>63081280
>Millennium Actress
It's a very good film. Probably Kon's best.
>Satoshi Kon
Pretty good (very good for an anime director). I prefer Miyazaki and Takahata, though.

Yuasa, Imaishi and Nakamura. Hopefully something will come out of anime expo.
>>
>>63086900
All of his best works were made in the 80s, each decade is worse for him.

Incredible movie.

>How do you feel about Satoshi Kon?

Taken too soon.
