Why'd he hate the Eagles?

Is this an inside joke? He listens to Kenny Rogers, and the Eagles toured with them during that whole era. He listens to Creedence and Bob Dylan and some other folky shit.

But you have Hotel California and other Eagles songs during the movie.

Can someone explain the hidden memes here?
>>
The Eagles are shit sellouts from the bay area and Duder is LA ride or die
>>
>>63081183
The Eagles are from Los Angeles you fucking retard.
>>
I was just thinking about this the other day while listening to the New Kid in Town. The Eagles are fucking cash and I remember his comment slightly annoying me when I watched this movie a few years back. Still don't understand it really.

Alas.
>>
>>63081247
He banged young Stevie Nicks in her prime.

I think you're taking the lyrics of the "Boys of Summer" a bit too seriously.
>>
>>63081176
Probably just to add a bit of character to him, sometimes there's just bands you don't like.

Also, notice how the music itself is a character in the movie. Big Lebowski's got his classical operatic shit, Dude has a bunch of folksy music, Bunny's into Elvis, Maude has her bizarre chanting. Jesus using a Mexican version of Hotel California was no accident: Dude hates Eagles and de Jesus, so de Jesus has their most famous song as their intro.
>>
>>63081176
Took me many many years to finally appreciate the Eagles, and the fact that they cross genres in so many albums.

I still think their 70's era stuff with Randy is a bit samey, but overall a great band.
>>
I think it's just a joke with nothing deeper.

The Dude is the kind of guy you'd expect to like The Eagles. The black Nation of Islam guy is the last person you'd expect to love The Eagles. I don't think there's anything deeper than an amusing situation.
>>
i tohught because he associates them with the jesus?

or was that nondiagetic soundtrack?
>>
>>63081176
there's some bands that everybody likes, but you just never clicked with them

I for instance, have never fucking liked led zeppelin, I do not understand the appeal of that band, I just dont get it
>>
>>63081389
This seems right. Especially where its such a minor thing to get thrown out of a cab over, and exactly the kind of thing the Dude lets go because who cares the whole movie.

>I hate the fucking Eagles man!
There is nothing else in the movie that the Dude hates, it humanizes him.
>>
>>63081389
I can see the Dude listening to Peaceful Easy Feeling and liking it
>>
>>63081176
the eagles just aren't rocking. The song the dude objected to was "peaceful easy feeling", which is overplayed, boring, and has no conflict. I always felt like they relied too much on harmony and less on substance though, so I enjoyed the exchange

>>
>>63081176
I don't like the Eagles either, but sometimes they do strike gold, like this one:

take a glass, put ice in it, cover the ice with vodka, put like 1/4 or 1/3 as much kalua in it, then fill it the rest of the way with milk

the trick is not overdoing the sweetness of kalua...if it gets lighter than coffee with a really good hit of milk youve gone too far
>>
Well, it goes with his character, he listens to Dylan and Creedence. Dylan never compromised his artistic integrity, he didn't ever give a damn about the critics' opinion, etc, if the public embraced his music it was fine and if they didn't it was fine too. Tom Fogerty is a similar individual.

Eagles on the other hand were the poster boys of radio friendly rock for a long period of their career.
>>
Jesus plays the Eagles while he bowls so they remind the Dude of a guy who annoys him.
>>
>>63081447
It means you have good taste
>>
The Eagles are too mainstream, too much of a consumer product for a counter-culture hippie guy like Lebowski.
>>
>>63081600
This.

>>63081525
>not true folk or country
But why does that matter? I can't contend the talentless hacks bit.
>>
>>63081320
But why the fuck does the respectable working man negro like the fucking Eagles, man? Shit makes no sense.
>>
>>63081665
>But why does that matter?

Because the Dude values things that are genuine. He thinks the Eagles are pretenders.
>>
>>63081447
Plagiarism aside, Led Zeppelin did make some good tunes, but I think a lot of it is boring.

They're no Yes or King Crimson, that's for sure.

Nah, I think Plant was fine. Not as good live as in studio, but just alright.

It's just that a lot of it sounds samey to me in the long run. Not to turn this into /mu/, but I'd find more excitement in repeated listenings to pic related rather than any one album made by Zeppelin.

Also, as an amateur guitar player, the innovative styles of Fripp or Howe just appeal to me so much more than the blues inspired riffing of Page.

It's impossible to compare of course, and we all have our own subjective tastes, but there does seem to be this popular opinion that you have to love Led Zeppelin, otherwise your taste a shit.

Personally, I would say I like them, but don't love them.

Nah, it's not really a phase, since it's been going steady for ten years now, since my early teens. I just like music with an overabundance of sounds and intricacies. I might have some form of musical ADD.

Pic related is also god-tier, so it's not just prog.
>>

Red
Foxtrot
Selling England By The Pound
Fragile
Close To The Edge
>>
>>63081961
Yeah, I got sick of it after playing in a band for two years in which we strove to get that sound, Gave me a lot of prerspective about the genre.
I tended to criticize "simpler" music just because it wasn't technically demanding or intricate enough, but with time I discovered the magic and genius that is required in creating a simple, effective tune.

He listens to Moon Dog, man. Moon Dog, for fuck sake.

Eagles suffered from the same thing the Red Hot Chili Peppers did. They became the sound of California, and then got played over and over and over and over and over until you had no choice but to hate them.

Now that the Eagles aren't on loop on the radio anymore, it's easier to appreciate them.
>>
>>63082075
I can understand that viewpoint. I'm still young and dumb, so I probably have a lot to learn.

In the meantime though, I'll be blasting those King Crimson records.

Captain Beefheart is a legacy band, that gets attention because Master Memester Tom Waits stole his entire shtick from this band.

I don't care for either of them, but at least Captain Beefheart had some unique and inventive production styles.

>>
>>63082177
>Zach's anti-white lyrics get sooo fucking old though, goddamn.

That's a turnoff for me as well. It's pseudo-rebellious music, appealing to leftists who are actually delusional enough to think they're fighting the system, when they are literally holding it up.

I think the closest thing to a truly anti-establishment, relatively mainstream band is Radiohead. Maybe I browse /pol/ to much, but I hear a lot of rebellious shit between lyrics.
