that's right, rich kids. rich kids have enough money from their parents to make a career in a field which has a massive chance of failing completely. if you do this from a poor background, the odds are against you because you'll run out of money before you get noticed, unless you're spectacular at the job.
same goes for politics, journalism (the pre-web 2.0 kind), music, basically any art/history field, even business startups to an extent.
of course you can't deny the nepotism and favors for favors, but i think a large part of it is that there's a higher proportion of preppy rich kids vying to succeed in the field than poor kids, who all dive straight into the workforce once they're out of education
