What makes this a great Bond movie?
Everything. Including the video game.
>>63049396
The soundtrack
The coldwar feels
The fact that the internet is just a tool but not a full blown crutch like most spy movies

After multiple fakeouts
Sean Bean and Tina Turner in the theme. Brosnan is an awful bond though, and everything after GE was a disappointment. Also, Goldeneye is possibly the most overrated Bond movie of all, probably being the first Bond that most people watched while kids.

>Brosnan being the best suave Bond, as oppose to Connerys laddish charms and Daltons darker, more brooding agent
>Shawn Bawn playing a 00 agent gone rogue
>sexy yet homely bond grill
>hotter than the fucking SUN Famke Janssen
>relatively grounded story, superweapon etc.
>solid cast overall, somewhat hammy Robbie Coltrane playing a Ruski
>that Tank chase scene
>>63050288
Also probably the best bond soundtrack.
Most intense fight scene in the series, even moreso than Craig's shit.
Brosnan vs Sean Bean at the end were real fighting, no stuntman, both fractured bones, cracked ribs, throwing each other into ladders and shit.
Best girl

They were reviving the series after the longest hiatus it had ever had. So they knew they had to deliver something great. To do so, they distilled the best, most iconic elements of a bond story without getting up their own ass with self-referential fan service like Skyfall. They also made the movies timely, dealing with the recent fall of the Soviet Union, the rise of the PC integrated work environment, and the advent of computer crime.
The movies does what the vest Bond movies do--it acts as a time capsule of the dominant culture and style trends of the moment.
>>63050401
And no Bourne shaky-cam Krav Maga.

So I guess this is why Skyfall and Spectre are memetic reddit capeshit level trash.

She does kinda look like a tranny desu senpai
A wide variety of Russian uniforms and an hitherto unmatched body count
That's what makes a good Bond film.
>>63050510
Yes, exactly.
>>63050475
This about sums it up. Also Brosnan was an awesome bond. They mixed the action and comedy/campiness pretty well too without making it feel confused. Additionally, I liked the soundtrack. Its dated, but it was trendy for the time.
>>63050475
>>63050510
They made a couple of self references though
>DB-5 cameo
>M calling bond out on his misogynist womanizer
>Moneypenny calling bond out on his innuendos
>Valentin referencing shaken not stirred
>"nobody does a sinister interrogation anymore"
also that GOAT soundtrack
>eagerly getting the VHS for the first time

Watch this again for the first time recently and I forgot all about that misogynist dinosaur line. Made me realize that the white male getting cukked in media was nothing new. Honestly the line made me so mad that I punched the teacup that was in front of me into shards and cut the fuck out of my hand. Not even my childhood movies are safe from this propaganda.
>>63050724
The diffference being that the internet was so young and unwieldy that women didn't have a hugbox to let these views blow out of proportion with reality.
>>63050724
I understand your frustation, but it was literally just meant as "welcome back bond, you've been gone for 6 years, oh by the way people dont act like this anymore, this isn't the old days" to the audience. A kind of reality check. Bond doesnt give a fuck and keeps getting ladies throughout the movie, so don't take it as a SJW thing.
>>63050658
>DB-5 cameo
Yeah, they should have just used a recent model Aston Martin. Tough, at least it didn't have some dramatic flashy hero shot introduction like Skyfall.
Fair enough.
>M calling bond out on his misogynist womanizer
>Moneypenny calling bond out on his innuendos
That was a very 90's thing with "modern" workplace--it comes across more SJW now, but it wasn't at the time.
In line with their banter for the previous 3 decades
>Valentin referencing shaken not stirred
I'll give you that one.
They all seemed well integrated into the movie though. I never got the feeling I was being reminded that "HOLY SHIT THIS IS A BOND MOVIE" "DID I MENTION THIS IS A BOND MOVIE?!" constantly.

They had a 3 movie deal with BMW. By Die Another Day, they switched back to Aston Martin, but that movie was just ridiculous and everyone forgot.
>>63050911
>>63050832
>BMW
was there EVER a indication (via script/storyboard/behind the scenes) of what they intended to do with the Goldeneye BMW? It showed up for 5 minutes and was gone, despite the fact of having missiles and other cool shit.
Missed opportunity imo
Brosnan was a better Bond than Craig.
>>63050985
>Missed opportunity imo
Yeah no. If they had missiles firing out of it then it would edge the film into a silly and more farfetched Bond film, ruining it.
Goldeneye is GOAT because it blends classic Bond elements such as in this case, gadgets used in a relatively realistic and sparingly way, while combining modern elements.
>>63050838
>That hammer sound
Same guy also composed soundtrack for 5th Element and Leon: The Professional.
>>63050985
>>63051092
Also, Q's wheelchair fired a missile. So, we had that at least.
>>63051092
I agree with you. I'm just wondering if they had any intention of using the car other than "here's your new car" Most bond movies made use of the car at some point in each film.
It's actually the worst brosnan movie when you let go of the groupthink and learn to havefub

In the 90s, we called it "Political Correctness," not SJW. Same shit.

>>63049396
Nothing. /v/ermins just like to shill it because it had an ok game based on it.
>>63051275
It would have been unnatural to ignore that cultural reality at the time. It wasn't done in a preachy way. It was clear that the new M was not popular among the staff, even beyond Bone. Remember the guy that called her the "evil queen of numbers"? THAT was what most office environments were going through in the mid-90's, and as usual, Bond movies reflect what's going on in society.

Maybe, but Craig got the better treatment of director, cinematography, script, etc
>>63051873
What do you mean? Martin Campbell directed Casino Royale, and Goldeneye--considered by many to be the two best Bond movies overall.
>>63051873
I don't think it's really fair to compare them. Goldeneye was meant to be a fun action movie while Royale, which also had action, tried to be more serious and focus on character.
Goldeneye is better in every single way than any other bond movie.
>>63050508
shit taste
It was a good action movie without going overboard. The rest of the Brosnan movies were too outlandishly silly, and the Craig movies have been too outlandishly serious.
Nobody wants to watch a movie that takes into account the conflicted feelings of a man as he blows up the evil organization his step-brother runs.
Miss me yet?
It's interesting because the film was well received when it came out, then the video game came out 3 years later and genuinely increased the films status. I don't think a game will never influence/change peoples thoughts on a movie ever again.
Why did he hate Bond so much?
>>63049396
The N64 game
>>63053868
He didn't
He hated Britain so much because they betrayed the people of the East after WW2 letting the Soviets fuck em up
