If you can make Timelord/Gallifreyian babies by boinking in the Tardis. Why doesn't the doctor just shag a human and have himself a timelord companion son or daughter to travel with. He could just dump the babies ass with the mother until its old enough.

He doesn't like being alone so why not just have a Susan/good Jenny 2.0.

I'm somewhat of a Sonic fan. (I just hope the games are fun again).

I don't know what to tell you, series about anthropomorphic animals just seem to attract weirdos. like sonic, My little Pony, Five Nights etc.

I have a theory that's its because its a weird mix between childhood and adulthood.

The Runaway Bri-

Voyage of the D...hmm...

RTD labours on and on about it in The Writer's Tale and it got so many viewers but for the life of me I've never understood why people like it

The End of Time - Part One

Has one, maybe two, great scenes (cafe). The rest is filler.
>>
>>63053550
Voyage of the Damned.

Has Wilf in it, even if he wasn't technically Wilf yet
>>
Hey folks

Anyone with a wishlist who hasn't read The Writer's Tale by RTD, I really recommend you put it on.

Any DW fan will be interested by the book, a great insight into the process of the show. I guarantee you'll like it.
>>
>>63053627
Why are you writing like an advertisement?
>>
I essentialy marathoned Series 1 though 4, got broadcast-current on Planet of the Dead.

Voyage of the Damned made me throw up a little in my mouth.

Also, I love how everyone forgets The Next Doctor.
>>
>>63053666
I just finished reading it and was really impressed by it. I thought it was just be a mildly amusing look at RTD's process but it really is a fascinating book. A few threads ago we were complaining that it's hard to think of items everybody would want and I just thought, if people don't have it, the book makes a good one
>>
>>63053737
You sounded like a salesman though and it was scary.
>>
>>63053682
I thought The Next Doctor had a good premise and David Morrisey was really good but the Cybermen stuff was bad. I think it would have been much better with a completely different villain.
>>
>>63053756
My bad, I study PR at uni and sometimes unconsciously slip into that writing style.

>>63053763
Totally agree. This really is going to sound shill-y now, lol, but RTD's thoughts around the Next Doctor in the Writer's Tale really show it was thrown together just with very vague marketable elements (Cybermen! A new Doctor!) and not an actual good story. The bloody journalist he was writing to had to talk him out of some of the stupid stuff.

>Actually a decent episode but a poor Christmas special

How 'chrismassy' does it need to be to be a good christmas special? Is being a good episode not more important than having enough obligatory christmas references in it?
>>
>>63053971
In my opinion? The Christmas-y stuff needs to not just be window dressing. It needs to actually be the story

Stories that fit:
A Christmas Carol
The Doctor, The Widow that magically gets her husband alive in an emotional cheat RTD for all his faults never would have done, and the Wardrobe
Last Christmas

Stories that make some effort, but don't fit:
The Christmas Invasion

Stories that don't fit:
The Runaway Bride
Voyage of the Damned
The Next Doctor
The End of Time - Part One
The Snowmen
The Time of the Doctor
>>
>>63054032
time of the doctor fit didn't it?
>>
>>63054057
I say it fits. Town called Christmas, Clara brought her "boyfriend" around naked for Christmas Roast, and we got a roaring regeneration story as a bonus present.

Snowmen I'd say doesn't fit.
>>
>>63053871
I'll admit Wardrobe isn't the best Christmas episode but it sure is comfy up until the power of mothers love saves the day and brings back the dead father bit
>>
>>63054093

I'd consider the town being named christmas to be a window dressing gimmick, but you're right about the christmas roast
>>
>>63054095
>up until the power of mothers love saves the day and brings back the dead father bit

I truly consider this one of the best ways to demonstrate the difference between RTD and Moff. Moff is infinitely more adult in so many ways, but he always tends to flub out at the actual emotional truths of things like, sometimes family members die in freak accidents and you can't bring them back. The difference between RTD and Moff are so fascinating. I hope, when Moff's time is done, someone writes a good book charting the difference between the two men and how they ran the show.
>>
>>63054453
>I hope, when Moff's time is done, someone writes a good book charting the difference between the two men and how they ran the show.

You mean Gattis, who seems to be who is the obvious choice. Welcome to the "AND THEN A GAY SKELETON POPPED OUT IN VICTORIAN LONDON!" era of Who.

Personally, I think Toby Whithouse should get the job.
>>
>>63054453
>freak accidents / reality
naw, forget that.
Doctor Who is all about taking taking the mundane, crap narrative of life and telling a better story.

Danny not Splinking is reality. Those kids getting their father back is Christmas magic.
>>
>>63054620

A gay skeleton made out of boogers*

You don't have to watch what you don't like. The show is not continuity heavy. If you come to like it, you can always come back.

This. Series 1 is one of my favorites, but it doesn't get better until later. All the great episodes, apart from Dalek, are in the second half.
For some reason, the RTD era tended to force you to sit through long runs of mediocre to bad episodes, and then with no warning you'd run into an equally long run of good to GOAT episodes (apart from Series 2, that's just alright to awful with occasionally a great episode).
Series 3 is fucking mad. The first seven episodes are, on average, very mediocre, ranging from really bad to just OK (apart from Gridlock, I think that one is really good) and then you get to the last six and they're excellent (even if you disagree with me on the finale, you'll admit that from Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks/The Lazarus Experiment/42 to Human Nature/The Family of Blood/Blink/Utopia there's a very large gap in terms of quality).
>>
>>63055573

Marigold's doing alright still, he's done a few really good songs this series

That guy you posted sounds nice but I'm not convinced it's doctor who music
>>
>>63055706

Girl in the Fireplace and impossible planet/satan pit are GOAT though
That's more GOAT episodes than S3
>>
>>63055782
Series 3 has Human Nature/Family of Blood and Blink, so it's at least a draw. And as I said, personally I love the final three-parter as well.
>>
I just watched The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. It was fucking comfy. I'd give it 10/10 out of pure joy alone, sure the story might be a little dumb but pretty fantastic. I'd got to rerank my Christmas special.

Like the song. Bah, bah, bah... The Doctor: No, you don't get to name things. I'm the Doctor. I do the naming! Clara: All right. Sorry. The Doctor: It's like the Silurians all over again!

Well duh. The Doctor can't reference an episode in-universe. He can't say "look Clara! It's just like the nanogenes from The Empty Child", because that would be fucking retarded.

Because he exists in the same universe as the things he's referencing, he can only reference species, events, people etc.

He can't just outright drop the name of an episode.

Perhaps they are related.

Except there's no scene like that in that video and there's a different colour to the TARDIS console. Also, Jenna was never seen tying her hair up in any picture be it in FTR or filming pics.

so who here really likes the Sunglasses.
Have they been written so as they can fit in the who universe? Who feels that are really cool. Who feels it is nothing but a plot device? Has this already been established? Should it stay, or go?

It's weird that you guys are talking about this as if anyone other than Mark Gatiss will be considered for the showrunner position. Gatiss is to Moffat what Moffat was to Russell T. Davies. His name is always in the press lately, as well. There's just no way he's not going to be the next showrunner.

Why should anybody currently involved get the job? I mean that how we got Moffat for Christ sakes.

I say the beeb should look for a runner who is not attached to The Who-vesre. The writers though should reamain the same or there-abouts. The runner should be able to take constructive notes on the universe and its continuity while keeping a fresh view on the stories.

>>63060271

I think it's a bit cringeworthy. It was just like 'o yea I got sonic glasses now, who uses a screwdriver lol'. The Doctor now has nothing to fiddle with while he's failing to escape or whatever, because the glasses have no buttons and twisty bits.

>>63060351
You're looking at this from the narrow perspective of a fan. Your reasoning is that the quality of a given writer's episodes should determine whether or not they get the showrunner position.

In reality, though, the role involves so much more responsibility and experience than writing quality content, and Gatiss is already 4/5 of the way there. From the BBC's standpoint, he is absolutely the safest bet.

Because that's how it works. It's like when that one guy gets the promotion at your place of work, just because they're chums with the managers, even though someone else was obviously more suited to the position.

>I haven't got a line in the sand but I absolutely intend to hand it on to someone else, I mean that would be horrible to be the last person in this job, I have no ambition to be that, and I have no ambition to do it for the rest of my life. I take it a year at a time, because anything else would drive you mad, you know, so one year at a time. I have full expectation that one day I'll be sitting down to watch Doctor Who and it'll be brand new to me as well, and I'll relish that. I'll enjoy it coming back, and I remember Russell writing to me having seen the Eleventh Hour saying "Doctor Who's finally back for me; that's the first time that I watched one where I didn't know what was going to happen next," and he was so excited by it! So, no, no it's not a job for life, except in the sense that I sort of know that alongside Russell and alongside David and Matt, all of us, we'll be talking about the show for the rest of our lives, we know that. It's the first line of the obituary, as David Tennant once said!

>It's an unusual episode, even for such a wide-ranging show, but according to Capaldi the story is about as Doctor Who as it gets.

>"I was excited because it hadn’t been done before but it seemed like a very Doctor Who idea," he tells us. "It in one way reminded me of [classic story] The Mind Robber. It’s a kind of very internalised adventure. I love things that seem to be 100% undiluted Doctor Who. And that’s what this episode seems to be to me. It is challenging because you realise that if the audience get bored with me that’s really bad news. But there are more colours and angles to it than I’m suggesting..."

it's shit, it really is.
I listened to it to see if a female Doctor would sound right to me. That doesn't matter however because the point of the story is that she is not being the Doctor.

It's filled with crude humour, I was curious to see Annabella Weir as the Doctor, I think she's someone who might work actually but this story doesn't do the casting justice.
