Just finished watching this.
An accurate visualizing of the different aspects of love.
Non-simulated sex was a gimmick, but an interesting one none the less.
The film made feel uncomfortable as it should have.
I think the ejaculating penis towards the camera perpetuated this.
Possibly my favorite film of the decade so far.

not playing in theaters around here for sure. irreversible is a favorite, but enter the void was shit. this looks cool but if it's just stylized sex scenes like enter the void was just stylized drug trips then i think i'm okay.

plot-wise it was decent, the sex scenes felt too long, after the second one it got uninteresting imo, photography was amazing, not as gimmicky as enter the void but still with its quirks

A major disappointment for me, cliched dialogue that even though it mirrored real life well came across as fake. Didn't buy into Electra and Murphy's relationship at all.
The sex scenes were mostly good but I expected an actual penetration shot.

I think its was the lack of dialogue actually, they just seemed very distant to be 'in love' with eachother, Electras char was fucking annoying. Also the film was a bit too masturbatory with those obvious references to Gaspar himself (he also acts in the film)

I think the film more about the overlying structure and an experience through the chaotic nature of love in its positive through negative aspects rather than a character/relationship study. At least that's what I took from it.
My problem with it is that sex is gross and I hate humanity. Also love isn't even real.

I think this is what Noè was trying to convey at parts where Electra and Murphy abuse their sexual abilities and that the indulgence of sex ultimately ruined their relationship that was decaying to begin with.
The film also begins with Murphy hating his current life and ends with him crying in the shower, which suggests that his love life has destroyed him and fucked him over completely.
Definitely not a "love transcends time and space" type of film.

I was thinking specifically of the cab ride scene when I brought up moments that reflected real life situations well but still came across flat. That moment in a destructive relationship is so powerful and it was well framed in the cab ride home but it was a moment where I was fully aware that they were actors in a scene
The self references are another subject where I think the film would have come across as more natural with a hard script. Obviously Noe wanted him to talk about this stuff so why couldn't he write it out for him?
Electra was annoying, she felt more like a prostitute than a lover. The chemistry with the other girl was better.
