I still can't watch it alone.
>>
>>63043501
I'm not saying the movie is bad, I just hate people that can't sit through a movie without going online/checking their phone etc. Just enjoy the movie you claim is so good.
>>
Because older movies had to rely more on good settings, ambiance, lighting and the strength of the cast.

So you are watching it paused and decided to make a 4chan thread before finishing it? It can't be that good then? I just watched the Hunger Games 2 straight without making a thread are you saying the hunger games 2 is better than the thing?
>>
How low is your IQ that you get scared by this movie? A man can appreciate the atmosphere and effects, but to actually be scared for real? Are you 4 years old? Probably not because I saw this at age 4 and wasn't scared in the slightest.

Dedserious.. The headfusion wasnt shown in Carpenters version? The prequel had it I know that much.

I like The Thing and it's one of my favorite movies, but do people really find it that scary? The imagery is certainly grotesque and the atmosphere suspenseful but scary?
>>
>>63044065
It's captivating but I'd never call it scary.

It still makes me flinch and I love it. I can't sit through The Ring again, though.

I've been on a Thing kick lately. As a matter of fact, I looked in a shop for the Howard Hawks film the other day; not finding it, I simply (re-)watched it on the internet. There are only a few deaths (mostly off-camera).

The franchise proper consists of three films, one made every 30 years, (and) all derived from the (one) original short story Who Goes There?, by John W. Campbell.

I thought that Hawks was officially credited with directing the 1951 film, but that distinction belong to one Christian Nyby. There is however some controversy as to who was really making the most decisions; everyone knows the 1951 film as the "Hawks" film. This is very similar to the original Poltergeist; Spielberg, who was producing, also had a lot of on-the-ground set clout in official director Tobe Hooper's absence.
>>
All three films have a remarkably similar physical geography - tight, supply-filled corridors - the one distinction being that the Hawks 1951 film takes place at the north pole with a stop in Anchorage, while the latter two take place in Antarctica.

NOTE: 4chan is giving me HELL over "herp your thing is spam" with these posts, which never fails to frustrate me and make me make the damn thing post on general principles. It may be edited in an ad-hoc - goofy way once I actually ram it through.

I'm 40 and the ring still has me creeped out, and that Jeepers creepers 1 saw both in theaters and walked out traumatized.

uhh... *thwip-ded*

The best line comes from the Hawks film, however:

"KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES!"

Other commonalities between all three films:

-A dog or three is always mutilated /first/, as foreshadowing to the problems to come. Even the Hawks film had a "dog-corpse" pop out of a cupboard for a jump.

-Always the Ice Block where the Original Creature came from.

-An investigation of the Flying Saucer, before we really get into the thick of our story.

-And as things start turning south, problems with the lab (and its blood supply).

-Friction between and among the pilots/military men, and the scientists

>such an old movie

Movies have been around for over a century. The last 3 films I watched were 49, 41 and 71 years old.
>>
Do you baka desu senpais want to stream a horror movie together?
>>
>>63049124

I'm not the other guy, but Alien is my favorite film. It is best (and most accurately) thought of as simultaneously being a science-fiction and horror film. For you to say that Alien is "not a horror film" is just shy of being objectively incorrect, short of general validity and variety of interpretations and opinions about art.

The screenplay written by Dan 'O Bannon and his buddy Shusett (and added to by the producers, especially the Ash plant within the ship) was intended first of all to be a frightening science-fiction story, but also to convey /real/ horror; body horror, transgressive male rape. Hence the novel nature of the creature itself. Ridley Scott took to the project very seriously, and consistently conceived of the project as both a speculation on future science (science-fiction, oh maybe they do this, maybe they do that), and ALSO as horror: he repeatedly refers to the Nostromo in commentaries as his "haunted house", and it is lit as such. We take this all for granted these days, because to paraphrase the mango-great Masamune Shirow, "Alien wrote the book on that (aesthetic) years ago". Everyone on the creative team got together on a coherent narrative, which implied the above two genres.

There is no plot in about the last 25 minutes of the film. This is not Janet Leigh in her shower, worrying about her money or her boss. This is not Clarice Starling trying to shoot a sicko, or Brad Pitt having a twist sprung on him - "thriller" more usually implies a human-to-human element.

There is just a single woman, running around a Gothic cathedral which is about to explode, and a dragon in her way. This is a more raw, more basic state of affairs.

Alien is, among other things, a horror film.

First mistake.

Drop the "old shit is less good" bias. It's often untrue.
