I've seen Colonel Blimp which is my favourite of theirs. I've also seen A Matter of Life and Death, The Red Shoes, and Black Narcissus, which is my second favourite. It's not that I don't like the movies, I think they all go from being solid to being very good. I just don't understand why people seem to think that all of the movies I just listed are masterpieces. I think the technicolour photography of guys like Douglas Sirk was just far, far superior. I never have much of an emotional reaction to their movies. They're good but I haven't ever been very excited about one of their movies. What am I missing?
