Beauty and the Beast, as far as overall films go.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame wins Best Overall Score (minus "A Guy Like You")
Mulan wins Best Single Disney Song with "Make a Man Out of You"
Notre Dame ties with The Black Cauldron for Best Disney Villain (Judge Claude Frollo and the Horned King)

Or at least, that's my opinion personally. Your mileage may vary.

Bambi is easily one of the best tales about maturity in cinema. Ending is absolutely majestic.

Peter Pan is really great too, and Sleeping Beauty is some cold shit, but is perfect aesthetically.

Don't know if The rescuers down under counts as pre-renaissance, if it does its that, if not I'd say the fox and the hound.
>>
Reminder that everything Disney released after the Lion King went completely downhill, aside from Stitch.
Reminder that if you genuinely think that Tarzan, Mulan, etc are genuinely amazing Disney films that can hold a candle to anything neo-renaissance or the actual renaissance era of Disney films that you are an underage brat.
That being said... What are the best Disney films? I find it hard to rank unless I separate neo renaissance from renaissance but it'd go something like this (I'm doing best 3):

Pinocchio = Fantasia > Bambi > Peter Pan

Beauty and The Beast = The Little Mermaid > Aladdin > The Lion King

I also want to add: I think the music in beauty and the beast is overrated as fuck. Little mermaid is arguably one of the best Disney musicals. And the lion king is actually very weak in terms of story.

>And please explaine to me how the Jungle Book is "essentially plotless".
>With Pixar's string of successful movies it became popular among animation buffs to quote the familiar mantra, story, story, story. But, I remember it was no less than Walt Disney himself who chewed us out back during the development of "The Jungle Book." Because we thought we had legitimate concerns about the films' simple plot line. Well, we caught the wrath of the Old Maestro head on. "You guys worry too much about the story," Walt shouted. "Just give me some good stuff." And, what was that good stuff Walt Disney was talking about, you ask? Fun, humor, entertainment. In a word, Walt was speaking of gags. "The Jungle Book" didn't need a more involved story line because we already had great characters to work with. Let the humor come out of the situation, the characters, and the story will take care of itself.

Voting members as a group are an incredibly poor representation of the US as a whole. Add to that: there's even less representation of the animation industry than there are non-whites.

They mostly just vote for the one they've heard of, e.g. Frozen. Oscars go to the best marketed cartoons.

Not that guy btw.
People on /tv/ seem to love Song of the Sea but I didn't like it as much as Kaguya. It was fine, cute music, but it lacked something to make it special in my eyes, and the character design looked like something from a Saturday morning cartoon. Still worth a watch if you enjoy animation, but I wouldn't say it's "that" good.
Better than Big Hero 6 though.

The Jungle Book. It's racist as shit (it was basically a propaganda film against the civil rights movement) but it's pretty much perfect as a movie.

I saw that at Epcot Center in 3d at some point in the 80's. I will never forget.

Tom Moore's stuff is good but not on par with Takahata at his best.
