Movie was good at first but then turns to shit once they leave the terminal. Would have bedn better if it was more of the girl facing real problems and the emotions figuring out how to deal with it. The only moment outside of the terminal that was good was the wagon rocket part but even that wasnt as strong as it could have been because the imaginary friend elephant thing was pretty annoying in the rest of the movie and so it wasnt assad to see him go.

My take on it was children always want to have fun (hence the focus on the yellow, joy, emotion) and think everything that happens to them that isn't directly ''fun'' is bad.
The focus shifting while growing up references being able to understand that life isn't all about having fun, and sad / angry / whatever memories only make the joyful stand out more (see: joy accepting the sad emotion-character and memories being clustered with different emotions at the end).

The message is really really fine for children and the family parts of it, specially the ending had really nice lightning and use of textures (see when she comes back and hugs her father, the atention to detail is immense), but the film itself is quite boring as far as aesthetics and use of animation goes: they just rehashed kid's subconcious as a factory from Monsters Inc. and that's it. Jokes aimed for adults were pretty lame too.
It was pretty mediocre for Pixar, and Tomm Moore made quite a better film on the same message, Song of Sea.
