As for season 3 it's overall shit except for the end of the 1st story arc and the very last episode. I'd say it's worth it, but nothing will top the ending for S2. That season was amazing and the ending was literally perfect.

Adaptions change shit all the time because they're not feasible in real life like the giant throne in ASOAIF. There's no reason to change someone's gender or race. So it all comes down to appealing to the PC crowd, or trying to send some kind of political message. Josh Trank made Human Torch black for this reason. Bendis created Miles Morales for this reason.
