No Tom Bombadil
>>

Way too much CGI in the RoTK and distinctly less effort, time and heart put into the vision.
No coincidence that it was objectively the worst of the trilogy

Hackson is basically George Lucas 2.0

When I was young I thought towers was better too but as you get older you will start to mature and realize it is not all about the big fights. When that happens you will come to realize just how much better fellowship is than the other two.

1. Too long.
Even the theatrical cuts were too long, and the extended cuts send it into fucking overdrive. Yeah, the extended cuts tell the full story, but they really should of worked more at combining scenes in order to cut down on the length. Also, too much slo mo. Movies that are 3 hours should have minimal slo mo.

2. Sam saying "Mr. Frodo" 400,000,000 times per hour.
>>
>>63010341
>>63010364
Literal plebs.

The emotion was tangible in the two towers because the struggle was relatable. The threat and consequences in towers were far more present than in fellowship which elevated the film and enhanced viewer interaction.

You can fuck off with "MUH comfy" feel

>Way too much CGI in the RoTK and distinctly less effort, time and heart put into the vision.

To be fair, that mimics RotK book perfectly because it was cobbled together by Tolkien's son from whatever notes his father. It wasn't a bad effort, certain not raping his father's legacy like certain OTHER son did to his old man, but it feels distinctly worse. And they dragged out that last battle fucking forever.

What do you think most fantasy stories are? They boil down to three main tropes. Save the princess/king/kingdom, defeat this ancient powerful evil, and find/destroy/reclaim this ancient powerful artifact.
>>
They weren't the superior books. I didn't much like Peter Jackson's changes. The acting was good, most of the sets were good, the music was good, everything else was okay to mediocre.

I'd rather just read the books. Also:

>NO GONDOR ASIDE FROM MINAS TIRITH
>GIMLI IS COMIC RELIEF

Fuck you.

Thinking about streaming the six book edit this Xmas on New Years if there's any interest.

>never read the books

I did find it interesting how they subtly changed Aragorn for the movies, though. He's more of a uncertain hero as opposed to "I'm just bidding my time to reclaim my rightful legacy" kind of character he is in the books.

seriously, watching behind the scenes and documentary footage just gave me a massive boner seeing how much effort was put into everything.
>>
>>63010743
it was amazing
>>
>>63010163
The only flaw is that they set up unrealistic expectations for The Hobbit.
>>
>>63010163

- Missing countless important/entertaining scenes from the books
- Replacing character/missing important characters out
- Sense of hopelessness and despair sandwiched inbetween comic relief
- The battle of the Greenscreen fields
- Finishing the climax of the largest battle by turning the dead men of Dunharrow into an invincible swarm of locusts
- That stupid fucking 'oh this must be the end right?', 'lolz tricked you all, again!' part at the end of RoTK

I could go on, I loved the books but this shitfest of an adaptation was a steaming turd of a venture. 1st one was alright in places but mostly trash, mediocre action scene, cringy comedy in the rest

>>GIMLI IS COMIC RELIEF
This. Worst thing about it.
Notice how it's not until the 'no one tosses a dwarf' scene that he becomes comic relief. The previous scenes he is a much more serious character, although slightly foolish in his boastfulness.
I guess it was because Merry and Pippin became too morbid.

>>
>>63010789
Seriously. It makes it so much more heartbreaking when you consider the train wreck that was The Hobbit's development period. They just didn't have the time to care as much as the team behind LotR did.

>>63011488
sauron was going to wipe out humanity regardless
>>
>>63011488
So long as the ring existed, Sauron would grow in strength and could essentially endlessly produce armies until Men were defeated. The books explain it pretty well.
>>
>>63010163
Two Towers, barring the token Osgiliath depictions, was garbage after the Black gate and Gandalf/Theoden confrontation. Return of the King had shit pacing somewhat because of Two Towers' design, and a lot of key stuff cut out. But RotK still had some great scenes though.
FotR>RotK>TT

>>63010265
Two Towers after the first half was bullshit. Fake forced drama with omg Aragorn is ded?!, shoehorning in a fake ass love triangle, contrived as fuck Helm's Deep buildup with 30 minutes of slow-mo peasants arming themselves (even children too, so sad what evil times), and somehow even made the battle more bland than in the book. And don't get me started on Faramir and that bullshit plot dragging Frodo to Osgiliath where the main agents of Sauron IDENTIFY THE RING RIGHT OUTSIDE MORDOR! (Sauron never having good intelligence or any sightings of the ring after the Fellowship broke up was one of the reasons the whole thing worked.) The only silver lining about that was it did give some good depictions of the ruins of Osgiliath, which was completely unused in the novels.
