>Film comes out based on a book.
>Doesn't follow the source material exactly but is still a solid movie and has some really shining moments.
>Fans of said book bash the film to oblivion because it doesn't follow the original work completely. Even though on its own, the movie is still pretty good.

Im not saying motion picture adaptions shouldn't be criticised of missing out certain points from the source material. But to call something completely shit like pic related just because it wasn't an exact copy of your beloved reading material is fucking stupid.
>>
>>62950443
I was a huge fan of the graphic novel before the film came out and I still think the film is really great. So basically you're wrong.

(Although I do think practically every change they made was for the worse)
>>
The changes betray a lack of understanding to the rest of the source material. The changes also make the entire movie a plot hole.

The changes were also idiotic. As american superweapon going berserk doesn't result in world peace, it results in every nuke everyone has getting launched, simultaniously. The US would assume manhattan had defected, the USSR would assume manhattan was just attacking them, and no one would've known manhattan attacked everyone till alien historians discovered earth and tried to piece together it's history.
>>
I don't know where the hate for this comes from. It's literally better than every marvel movie ever made.
>>
The problem was that it was simultaneously too slavishly devoted to the material yet crucially thematically different, so it felt like Snyder completely missed the point.

It isn't completely shit, it's actually one of the best capeshit movies ever but compared to the comic it IS shit.
You really can'd adapt most of Moore's work, just like you can't adapt Infinite Jest or Gravity's Rainbow

Honestly, someone doing a proper adaptation needed the change the book more while retaining the underlying concepts,. Visionary Director Zach Snyder did the opposite, copying the book while constantly choosing wrong-headed directoral choices like glorifying the violence, when the whole thing really should have been more like a gritty cop drama, not being super-glossy with slo-mo and undermining the whole damn point.

Basically, it wanted to be 'cool' and faux-'edgy' and ended up as a superficial pile of shit which teenagers will think is grown-up.
>>
>>62951367

>>
I immensely enjoy both the book and the movie. I completely do not understand the hate for the movie.
Disclaimer: I am an admitted hyper-pleb
>>
I wouldn't call it completely shit. It's probably the best Watchmen adaptation we could have gotten out of Snyder so that's something.

also the trailer was pretty sick
>>
>>62951367

>>
>>62951657

>>
>>62951591
I actually think Wachoskis did mostly a good job with V for Vendetta, far better than Watchmen anyway. It wasn't a good version of the book, but they knew they made a good *movie* out of it.
>>
>>62951706
While it's the best adaptation of any Moore comic yet, it still missed the point by making V into an almost perfect good guy while in the book he was far more morally ambigious
>>
>>62951657
Good summary.

To me it can be summed up to a Kanye-like:

>Zak Snyder doesn't understand irony.
>>
>>62951773
V was still a crazy murdering psychopath in the movie. Just he was in the right, kinda.
>>
>>62951619
>Not having your own opinion
>>
>>62951582
>Indeed I did

Remove the elevator scene, the jet scene, and the knife fight and the movie is completely forgettable. I'll remember the final act of Man of Steel for years to come. I literally have no idea what's going on in the final act of winter soldier. Good sequences don't make a good movie.
>>
>>62951697
>>62951367
Its clear you have no idea what plothole hes talking about.

In the movie, there was nothing to cause the comedian's breakdown.

I hated this. Everything had to be slick and ultra violent even when it didn't fit. Like the Dan and Laurie alley fight
>>

>I'll remember the final act of Man of Steel for years to come.

No one else will.

You like a shit flick. No one cares.
>>
>>62951773
As a stand-alone movie, it was mostly good with one or two shitty bits. As an adaptation of the original work, it was flawed but commendable.

But, generally, I'd much rather have a good movie than a good adaptation
>>
>>62951706
the Wachowski's didn't direct V for Vendetta. When will this meme die?
>>
>>62951917
Eh it wasn't that commendable honestly, it missed a lot of little details that made Watchmen so special.

>>
>>62952156
In the comic, finding an island filled with 2nd rate authors, comic book artists, geneticists, and psychics all working to programm a giant telepathic squid to brainwash the plant broke the comedian.

In the movie, veidt was building power plants, with zero indication he was doing anything else, or had any further plans, yet the comedian breaks down anyway.
>>
>>62952251
>that's a lie.

Except it's not. Not hard tho to be fair, man of steel is dogshit.
>>
>>62952297
He doesn't breakdown at all actually. Veidt just murders him for no reason.
>>
>>62952287
i will refute that point

i believe the repeated use of the word nigger is perhaps an underestimated comedic joy
>>
>>62952334
They included the scene where he was crying in molock's apartment. At least in one version.
>>
>>62952297

All I got from the movie was that the Comedian knew what he was up to and was powerless to do anything. I don't remember it being explicitly stated what the extent of his knowledge was.
>>
>>62952297
you reckon they could actually pull off another adaptation of the graphic novel and keep it 100% faithful without it seeming too weird?

>>
>>62952504

What are you basing that on? Please spoonfeed me.
>>
>>62952420
I dunno man, i was a lot more entertained during ant man than i was with man of steel.

I went into both with different expectations of each though. Just found Ant man was easier to watch. There were just moments in Man of Steel where it was frustrating to see the characters acting nonsensically. Pulled me out of it. Had really high hopes for it as well but ended up ultimately disappointed
>>
BvS will blow Civil War out the water because it's basically Watchmen 2: Heroes I give a shit about, and even if it weren't for that Age of Ultron made the entire capeshit genre look bad.
>>
>>62952558
I think he's basing it on the fact that nobody but Veidt actually knew what those power plants were for, even the scientists who built them died thinking they were an energy industry breakthrough
>>
>>62952495
the percentage is reviews that are positive. So with antman, of the 244, 195 reviews were positive, then with MoS, only 162 out of 289 reviews were positive.

In the movies Veidt reverse engineered the process by which Manhattan was created and built a weapon 10X more powerful than the hydrogen bomb.
In order to built these bombs in secret, and to hide the massive energy outputs creating them would create, he claimed to have invented new power plants in which he could safely build them
>>
>>62950443
People don't hate Watchmen because it deviated from the source material, they hate it because it's a pretentious mess.

If you didn't read the book, the film will probably make little sense to you.

For a film that takes itself so seriously, it has some pretty loony moments. The fight scenes are really self-indulgent and undercut any intelligence the film might display, and the on-the-nose music choices like "The Times They are A-Changing" and "Flight of the Valkyries" during that Vietnam bit and a sped up version of Mozart's Requiem are downright goofy. Also Laurie's mother couldn't act for shit and Michael Fassbender really blew it by portraying the villain as a holier-than-thou genius-- I mean, it was supposed to be a surprise that he was the villain, but he actually acts like he's an actual hero.

Visually the film looks great, and it has some great moments, but the inconsistent tone and the enormous scope of the story really killed it.
