>>62951597
Rly difficult to get deep sea footage desu. You have to have an RC deep sea minisub with super powerful cameras and lights and shit and it's not always a guarantee that there'll be cool shit to film. With sea birds you just hang around at the surface.
>>62951597
im guessing it's difficult to get a lot of good footage of deep sea shit
>dat preening

It's twerking but for an intelligent purpose.
Ok lads, which would you rather be?
Whale calf being hunted by a pod of orcas
Wildebeest being hunted by african hunting dogs

>>62951778

>>62950456
The music made me really scared for the seal ;_;
>>62951850
>que
A what?
>>62951763
>Why is the planet populated by millions of discrete species and not a continuous mix of lifeforms?
You mean why isn't every organism very morphologically different from one another and why are there species? It's because of hereditary genetics and the margins of inherited mutations. Discrete species and orders are still made up by humans desu senpai, from an objective standpoint (ie examining the whole of the history of the Earth) life is just a huge ancient mass of really active metamorphic organic matter with a simple universal inbuilt propagation system (reproduction).
sardines have it rough.
>THIS GANGBANG THO
>thousands of free meals right in front of you
>CAN'T DO SHIT
Frustrating as fuck
>These fast as fuck tuna
Great on toast too

>>62951488
That was shot so perfectly. You don't even notice the bears head until it's too late, just like the poor seal. Real horror movie stuff.
>copper sharks
'ello 'ello 'ello, what's going on 'ere then, something seems fishy
Oh shit that big whale
>>62951488
Just compare the size of this >>62951488
Polar bear to this one >>62950456
The latter must be three times the formers size.
>>62951942

>Whale took a bite so big, there could be a bird or sea lion or tuna in there that was trying to get some sardines
Eh, they had the Bryde's whale bit in the Africa thing he did in 2013. Obviously was new footage. Still rly cool, and edited better this time.
>>62951962
>swimming license not paid up eh, my son my son?
>tfw no qt belly whale ;_;
>>62952031
then he would've choked to death/spat it back out, the throat passages of baleen whales are really really tiny
>Despite the size of its mouth, the dimensions of its throat are such that a blue whale cannot swallow an object wider than a beach ball.[42]
>>62952070
>dat gut
Amazing
>>62952070
I didn't know whales could inflate thier mouths like that
>>62952070
>mpreg fetish bullshit on my bbc
WHY DO I PAY THE LICENCE FEE FOR THIS TRIPE
Look at the fucking size of that thing, it's the biggest animal in the world.
>REQUESTING WEBBUM OF THAT SARDINE GENOCIDE
>that vanish
>>62952168
*of all time
>Growing up, be a shark fan boy
>Favorite shark is whale shark
>Think it's the biggest shit in the ocean but get BTFO'd by the blue whale
;-;
Am I wrong or was that the first time Blue Whales have been shown feeding?
>tfw there are only 5,000 to 12,000 blue whales left
:(
a whole year wasted fuck
>>62952197
Bigger than a megalodon? Or that crocodile looking Dino from jurassic park
>>62952169
Also this

That we know of...Ever wonder why we don't go too deep into the ocean?
>>62952248
Of all time.
>>62952169
>muh sixty gorillion sardines
Once again, The Hunt shows some of the best screen craft in years. So many filmmakers this year should be ashamed of themselves.
That would scare the life out of me. Genuine sea monster
>>62952248
Way bigger than Megalodon. Like ~30 ft bigger
Amazing shot
>>62952296
That Sardine Auschwitz was some of the most exciting shit I've seen in a long, long time.
that entire whale segment
The sardine massacre was fucking intense as fuck. Couldn't look away and that shock ending. Fuck
where's the i'm a celebrity thread lads
The behind-the-scenes segments are always the best parts of these shows
>Attenborough: Here we see a fine specimen of ctenophora, engulfing its prey
>*footage of a jellyfish catching its prey*
>American narrator: THIS IS ONE SERVING OF JELLO YOU DON'T WANT TO MESS WITH, BECAUSE YOU DON'T EAT THIS JELLO, THIS JELLO EATS YOU
>*crash zooms of the jellyfish moving towards the prey, makes eagles screeches as it dives in, camera shakes everywhere, prey screams in fear like a human*
wew lads what a show

It's funny because it's true. Unfortunate, but true.

someone post the mantis one
I nearly cried watching the Blue Whale. The size of it, the music, the fact the numbers are dwindling. Something about it seems so beautifully tragic.
>>62952563
British documentary
>Here, in the jungles of Bhata-Tuthu, the praying mantis is in search of its prey.
>3 minutes of very clean and uninterrupted footage of the praying mantis following a spider
>American documentary
>Guitar riffs playing in the backround
>YOU PROBABLY WOULDNT WANT ONE OF THESE KILLERS IN YOUR BACK YARD
>Rapid jump cuts of the praying mantis
>THE PRAYING MANTIS MIGHT LOOK LIKE A BUG IN CHURCH, BUT THIS NASTY MOTHER-SUCKER IS NOT TO BE MESSED WITH
>More flashy jump cuts
>THIS LITTLE SPIDER DOESNT KNOW WHATS WAITING FOR HIM, THE FURY OF THE MANTIS IS NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED
>More flashy jump cuts
>The mantis strikes
>Strange animal growling and screeching noises are dubbed in as it attacks because silent footage is too boring for americans
>Slow mo replay of the attack in black and white
>AND ITS OVER IN A FLASH
>THAT LITTLE SPIDER
>SHOULD'VE PRAYED
>TO THE MANTIS
>Starwipe to next clip
When Attenborough dies, which animal should be on The Hunt for the remains?
>>62952615
>>62952523
anyone else think the sardines sequence was like the fight scene from anchorman? they just kept on coming!
>>62952685
It was total rape, nearly started hyperventilating but they just kept coming

Based Richard.

Literally reddit: the person
so le quirky xD
>>62952248
Way bigger than C. megalodon, upper bound for C. megalodon based on the size of the teeth and jaws is like 16 metres. Blue whales get to like 30 metres long and can weigh up to 180 tonnes, making them the heaviest animals to ever exist. There were potentially some sauropod (long-necked) dinosaurs that were longer, but they could never have been heavier because they lived on land and water supports huge weight much better than air. That's why beached whales die under their own bodyweight.
The mosasaurs never got as big as the one in Jurassic World, the largest (Tylosaurus and Hainosaurus) reached like 17 m and were projected to weigh up to 20 tonnes.
>>62952263
We do actually go really deep into the ocean, we've been to the bottom of the Mariana Trench (as deep as it gets). I think four expeditions have made it that deep, including James Cameron. If there was something bigger than a blue whale down there then we'd know about it simply by the affect it would have on the surrounding environment. The abyssal and hadal zones of the sea aren't nutrition-rich because they receive no sunlight so have to rely on marine snow, whale falls, and chemosynthesis at hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. None of this would be enough to support anything as massive (i.e. heavy) as a blue whale. The closest is the sperm whale, which dives down to incredible depths to feed on deep-sea squid. Colossal squid are thought to reach 14 metres in length, but would only weigh around 750 kg, just because having huge body mass A) isn't really compatible with cephalopod biology and B) wouldn't be functional at such pressures. This is the same as with the slightly smaller giant squid, where the arms and tentacles account for much of the squid's great length, making it much lighter than its chief predator, the sperm whale. Most big invertebrates that reside almost permanently in the deepest zones of the sea, like giant tube worms, tend to be rather structurally delicate and fragile.
>>62952807
Boy, you sure do use words pretty
>>62952639
i reckon when attenborough dies all the species in the animal kingdom should pitch together and pay for the funeral. i mean, after all he's done for them.
>>62952807
You wasted this knowledge on a dead thread familia. Shows over

I found it really interesting. Especially since I'm studying molluscs at the moment. Speaking of which there's a species of cuttlefish that literally kucks other males by pretending to be a female to sneak past them and bang their woman.

So far as we know thus far all life on earth has a common ancestor. Something became alive some how, reproduced by splitting, then through many generations of mutation became everything on earth today.
>>62953285

It's called abiogenesis.
