I think Kubrick put the aesthetic experience above everything else when he made movies. What's most important is how the movie looked and sounded. Did you think it was pretty? If nothing else you should be able to take that from a Kubrick movie.

that in the process of conditioning ourselves (which is a fundamentally violent and invasive process) to function within society's conventions it is possible that we lose something of our more essential humanity

yeah, i thought the art, cinematography and whatnot were captivating. i guess school has stuck me in the
>what did he mean by this?
approach to everything
>>
I saw the weirdo's who broke into peoples homes and raped them as an analogy for niggers desu
>>

but isn't that essential humanity expressed through shit like porn and crime?

I took it, like most of his work, as an exploration of the duality of man and our inner shadows vs our outer persona.

First half of the movie is the characters as their real selves. Same with the set design. Very colorful, very vivid, very alive. The back half, once he has been brainwashed and released, is showing that even though he has been brainwashed, his "friends" have found actual jobs, etc. They are all still the same as they were before.

Alex is still the same monster as he was before. His previous gang friends are the same, they just now use their positions of power and authority to abuse others.

The world, and the characters, may have put on a mask of civility, but the truth is something far more ugly.

>What did he mean by this
he was trying to say >>62932392 desu. He predicted the migrant crisis and wanted to warn us.

that's the debate that the movie/novel raises mate. are we embracing our humanity more fully when we give in to the impulses that drive us or must we control those urges, rein them in, and become like one another? the movie is just about the complicated process of taming those urges and possibly losing something in the process as we are force fed a different way to exist.

Watched this today, I'm pretty sure it's one of Kubrick's worst films. It all boils down to a basic karma story; guy does bad things, then bad things happen to him. What an overrated film, the fact that this is spoken in the same breath as other Kubrick films like 2001 or Paths of Glory is a disgrace

ah I see. I think maybe he should have played up the stuff we lose angle a bit more (which maybe was the purpose of the deleted chapter), but I'm not sure. thanks m8

adult should not drink milk

>bad things happen to him
But that's wrong, you left out the part where he's set for life at the end and just had to endure a little pain
>>
>>62934429
Still love that scene where he's literally being spoon-fed by the state at the end.
>>
>>62934507
The way he chews then plops open his mouth makes it one of my most favorite scenes from any movie ever

it wasn't milk it was drugs
>>
What I always took away from it was that it's basically a portrait of societies relationship with violence. And how sometimes, people are actually rewarded and congratulated for being maniacal pieces of shit.

The movie leaves out the last chapter of the novel which is when Alex is grown up and tired of crime. He decides to give up living with violence and wants to live a normal life. The movie is still fantastic but it leaves out burgess main lesson of the story

I am a total peasant when it comes to movies and understanding and the like but I always thought it was weird that most places visited and the people in that movie were really alien and made me uncomfortable (His mothers dress sense and their apartments style, the way the wheelchair bound dude had a muscular dude to carry him around etc) yet the prison was seemingly normal and in good order.

I'd feel more comfortable in prison than I would in the outside world within this movies universe.

It's about using film to brainwash people into complacency.

It's a deep meditation on mankind and our society, the alienation of people and oppression by the State.
