What went wrong?
TomorrowLand
Movie tried to sell too many emotional points without properly investing time to make me care
Christ knows but I hope Kosinski gets more work, Oblivion was criminally underrated.
>>62919652
Style over substance.
It's a pretty movie and the soundtrack is good, but the plot wasn't there.
I don't remember a thing about it, to be honest.
Carbon copy of first one.
Poorly written characters.
Shitty shiny cgi.
Not a single creative idea.
G. Lucas syndrome.
>>62919652
it was about as good as you could expect.
at least it looked and sounded pretty. and it *felt* like tron, sort of.
The Daft Punk should have had important characters.
>>62919652
>what went wrong
It was made for guys in their 30s and 40s who nostalgic for the original movie, and not for kids
That is why Disney made the CG Tron cartoon, because they went after kids with that, but it was too late
The character the movie is named after gets keked unceremoniously in a flashback

BIODIGITAL JAZZMAN
The movie didn't have anything interesting to say about the relationship between man and computers. The first movie was about how the information age was going to drastically alter society and nobody really knew it yet. Think stuff like the scene where Dillinger realizes he's out from under his head when the MCP reveals that it's already infiltrated the Kremlin's network. Tron Legacy was weak shit computer nazis and computer jews. Predictable and generic. In an age where people pour so much of themselves into their digital lives, it astounds me that they made a Tron film so superfluous and irrelevant. Vague philosophy like "remove yourself from the equation," or "perfection is impossible" instead of hard sci-fi shit like "if people don't resist, whoever controls the flow of data in this new era of technology could use that influence to subjugate the masses."
Friendly reminder that if you didn't like this movie you are a fake tron fan who wants to sound intelligent by saying the sequel was nowhere as god.
>>62920439
>if people don't resist, whoever controls the flow of data in this new era of technology could use that influence to subjugate the masses
N-no one would want to watch such a silly movie
>simply throwing away flynn's superior light cycle model to a program who just gets caught
>tracked by programs on re-entry to city but there is no action whatsoever
>once your arrive to flynn's house the movie gets boring
the soundtrack was good and honestly its the only film i've seen in IMAX 3-d that was worth it, and i've seen a few.
>>62919652
David Bowie wannabe spoiled it for me.

>didn't have anything interesting to say about the relationship between man and computers
>AI had become sentient because of the incredible amount of data
Nigg, you dumb
>>62920820
MCP didn't become sentient because of too much data. It became sentient because ENCOM programmers just kept adding shit to it over the years and it basically became the basis for their gigantic system. But anyway, at its core, the MCP is a chess program Dillinger made that was actually spyware so he could steal other people 's (ie Flynn's) shit, giving it a compulsion to have to outsmart\win and a canny sense of how to abuse data to its advantage. Much more interesting than Computer Hitler Who Wants Perfection (Which Is Impossible, That Is The Moral)

Uprising is much better
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkK35ZcEZgc
It had dialogue.
It could've (and would've) worked perfectly as just 2 hours of daft punk music video.
Following the Hero's Journey by the numbers, like a lot of crappier Hollywood movies do. Not sure if it's a bad writer or a studio rewrite of a better script.
Literally nothing.

>>62924466
Please explain the symbolism in this movie as I must be retarded.
>>62924527
You are literally retarded.
The first movie was absolute trash and only did well because of the breakthrough special effects. It wasn't like Toy Story or Who Framed Roger Rabbit where a new exciting concept was accompanied by a good script. Without a revolutionary gimmick, the remake was just a prettier version of the already terrible first movie.

>>62919652
Why is a negative opinion of this movie being forced all of a sudden?
It was quite the opposite before the third one was scrapped.
Is it to stop Disney looking like a bunch of incompetent retards who passed up on great opportunity?
It was a good movie, and there was potential for a huge franchise.

I rewatched it recently and it certainly does not hold up well, it's laughable/cringey in spots today where it wasn't when it came out.
It's my favorite "bad" movie because of the music and visual style. The plot is hilariously bad and can be ripped apart viciously if you feel like it, but I don't because it's fun to watch. The cartoon series was pretty good too, it actually had Tron in it as a central character.
>>62925115
Well, it's campy. But it's a kids movie first and a cult classic second.
I was actually surprised how "adult-oriented" the second movie was. Of course it was still MAINLY aimed at teenage audiences but it was decidedly less "fairytale in cyberspace"-like than the first one. I liked a whole lot about it but sadly the story arc sagged in the middle and just couldn't recuperate.
the first 45 minutes or so were pure bliss though!

Which was surprisingly not awful. The slice-of-life batman-in-highschool was tired, but didn't ruin it.
They also managed to pull of that cell shaded CGI look well enough.

I'm not sure how loving a movie that is objectively bad in a lot of ways makes someone pretentious.

The real victim here was Uprising. Tron is kill, and there is nothing we can do about it.
The story was pretty stupid, but it's a vehicle in exploring a pretty fucking cool world. It's one of the few movies which has a terrible story which I can rewtch over and over again. There's something so comfy about the characters, the world and the soundtrack.
Acting isn't bad, story isn't horrible. Realistically it's all run of the mill kind of stuff but fuck it's pretty to watch.

exactly, nothing complicated going on with the story, but the visuals of the world tied to together with music comes together to give the audience a comfortable ride. Sometimes I put this movie late at night so fall asleep to it, in a good way.

This, DESU. It's also why the vidya are fun to play in spite of by all means being mechanically stale as fuch (with 2.0 being the best); the world of Tron is awesome conceptually, even if the movies have trouble giving it justice.
