There should be at least a lot of horror movies set in WWI
>>
Why are there few WWI movies? Is it because US didn't participate in it as much as in WWII? Is it because it didn't have an holocaust?
>>
>>62919693
There was one with Andy Serkis, forgot what it was called though.

Some guys take a trwnch, but there's no one there. Shit gets weird and goes all Silent Hill.

I forgot the name (and most about it, I was a little drunk when I saw it and it was like 5 years ago) but I think it was called Deathwatch?

I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I'm writing a screenplay about WW1. Reading about the testimonies of Verdun convinced me that it was literally Hell on Earth, as if somebody had opened a portal to another world of inescapable misery, trapped inside an planetary wide industrial slaughtering machine. It is the peak of human misery, destruction and tragedy.

I remember hearing about a "fort" that was fought over, and switched hands repeatedly over the battle of (I Think it was) Verdun. It was an unimportant fort that had no real strategic value. Apparently there were just hundreds of corpses from each side rotting, and places just had uniforms in the shape of a person in the mud, because their bodies had rotted and been stomped on so many times it disappeared.
>>
>>62919959

>>
>Westfront 1918

Interesting to watch together, their both pre WWII German films but Westfronten is pacifistic while Tannenberg laudes a german victory. It's interesting to see how Germany's sentiment towards both adjusted as the Nazis grew in power.

WW2

Should we really care about them anymore? I mean war has changed. The world has changed. The next war won't be fought with men in boots, it'll all be drones and robots and cyber attacks.

It just seems so irrelevant now. I watched Fury, and I might as well have been watching Star Wars that's how far removed from this timeline it was.

When we get a ww1 miniseries of the same quality as BoB or the pacific

Never. America wasn't that involved with The Great War and I don't think any European studios have the financial backing to produce a truly epic WW1 series on the scale of BoB.

A WW1 series is a difficult one to write. With WW2 you had the benefit of it being a ever moving campaign with changing scenery and obstacles.

With WW1 you have about a 8 month period in the begining of the war where things were still mobile until shit got stuck.

Just how many episodes can you write about mud and trenchfoot at verdun?

You can try Gallipoli (2015)

It's a pretty good miniseries in the style of BoB, not the same quality, but it's well worth it if you're interested in WW1.

By that logic, 75% of France should be portugese by now since portugese migrants had the highest birth rate in the 70s and 80s.
But integration works, second and third generations mixes in and adapts or leaves.
And said towns "taken over by musilms" are overpopulated commieblock'd areas, so nothing of value is lost here.

Passchendaele was a fucking abortion, and a disgrace to those who suffered in the trenches.

It is also a lost opportunity, as there will likely never be another chance to make a theatrical release movie about the Canadian experience in the Great War.
>>
anybody read In Stahlgewittern? Any good?
>>
>"He went completely out of his mind at the end. He started telling me about a hideous event that happened during a skirmish in a little ruined town in World War I. He'd killed someone in a miserable, horrible way and that had obviously haunted him throughout the rest of his life. As my grandfather died, in his mind he was back in that town, trying to find a German boy whom he'd bayonetted in the forehead. He'd lived with that memory all his life – and he was of a time when people kept things to themselves. When he finally told the story, it really affected me and I've not been able to get it out of my head."[5]

I love WW1 because it's not twisted into a contrived narrative of Good vs. Evil.

It's just a supreme example of how the delicate and precarious systems devised by man in the genuine interest of securing peace and prosperity are invariable just as flawed as their creators. It was a war that both sides worked feverishly to prevent, but at the same time were inexorably drawn towards it. It was the unveiling of a new kind of industrialized war. A war fought with production lines and factories, with scientists and engineers, with metal triumphing over blood. It was a pandoras box. A new kind of war, requiring a new kind of society, one that can be reorganized like a singular giant machine that exists only to sustain violence.

It's harrowing.
