Not really. Its like the anti-Spartacus in a lot of ways. Dull as shit characters, prudish sex scenes (no wincest) and a subpar finale. The entire second season is fucked because they knew they were getting cut.

Pullo and Vorenus were the best part of the show. But in Season 2 their characters bordered on cartoonish. I blame HBO fucking over Millius on that but the end product suffers for it. They're also the only characters in the show worth a damn so whenever they aren't on screen the show drags.
Villains can't have sympathetic motives. They can have origin stories that make you think they maybe got the raw end of the deal but if their motives are in any way understandable they are not a villain, they are just an antagonist.
