Plinkett videos were big enough that Roger Ebert, Damon Lindelof, and Simon Pegg publicly raved about it. The latter two have worked with JJ Abrams.
George most certainly knows of the reviews, whether he watched a scathing critique is doubtful but considering he had that quote a while back where he more or less said "How can I make more movies when everyone hates me?" it's not ridiculous to assume that he sold the franchise and retired because of haters like Plinkett.
Yes I am saying there wouldn't be the sequel trilogy if not for Lucas hate. Had the fans kissed George's ass more he'd still own Star Wars and would probably be fucking up the original movies some more.
