Are there staff that keep track of the EU and inform the writers that there are conflicts with the top secret script that they wouldn't have the clearance to see?
It makes more sense that both the main trilogy writers and new EU writers don't communicate or influence each other, they just follow some guide lines to stay out of each other's territory.
